Dimitri point of view
THE NIGHT AIR WAS soothing and cool, as I laid my back on the glass window frame of my black Rolls Royce, underneath the moonlight.
I let out a silencing hiss at the creatures of the night that chirped all around the dark forest. Poor things fell silent, even they feared me. Chugging hard on my bottle, loving the burning sensation it left on my throat. I had already emptied an entire bottle of Bourbon and I was on my way to ending the second one. But sadly one of the perks of being an immortal lycan werewolf was that I couldn't get drunk no matter how hard I tried. Goddess only knew how bad I wanted to be drunk right now. I stared at the gigantic moon that hung above me, as it radiated with raw energy and power that could be felt by all werewolves. The moon goddess must probably be having a good laugh right now at my pathetic situation, just today she had made sure I and my so-called human mate crossed paths. Couldn't she for once stay out of this. Why does she always have to meddle in our affairs?
Why?! Why did she have to show up... now? Her appearance only spelt danger to the pack according to Celeste prophecies and that old witch could be a dozen things but being wrong was never one of them.
Countless times I had hoped her premonitions were put to shame but each time they were proved right, that's the reason why for centuries our pack leaders always thought it wise to listen to her warnings, but it was never a habit of mine to be told what to do.
Although I couldn't have a mate who would be the undoing of my pack which my predecessors had tried to keep strong despite the curse that keeps dwindling our numbers every passing full moon. If there was any possibility that my mate could be of any danger to the pack I might as well have to reject her for the survival of the pack. Moreover, there are hundreds and thousands of wolves all over the globe dying just for the opportunity to be addressed as my mate and Luna of all wolves.
I could feel Luca whimper sadly, I could feel his sadness from within. Whatever the case may be, he still wanted her, irrespective of who or whatever doom she represented. He needed her still. It was an insatiable craving that even I couldn't explain.
I was about to gulp down the last dose of my Bourbon but I stopped. I had too. I caught a scent that put my entire senses in overdrive. I could feel Her around again. My heart began to pound with lightning fury. This was a strange effect I noticed she had on me.
'Mate!' Luca growled in excitement 'she's close'.
I could hear her little heart from a far distance, beating faintly within her chest. I could smell the most alluring scent of lilacs and vanilla mixed together from near the outskirts of the forest, pulling me to her like a moth to a flame.
"What the hell is she doing here in this woods? She shouldn't be here." I jumped down smashing the almost dried up bottle of Bourbon on the hard ground. This forest wasn't safe at day but even more at night, no one could tell what creature you would find but whatever creature you would meet won't come with a smile while baring gifts and presents that I could assure you for sure.
I heard a loud and threatening growl emanate from the forest, shaking the earth. It was coming from the same direction I felt my mate.
'Mate- she is hurting. We need to find her. We need to protect mate,' Luca told me and I couldn't agree less with that. No one dares to harm what belongs to me. No one, not even the devil himself would dare to do that. She was mine and mine alone.
In a fluid and incredibly fast motion, I roamed through the forest like a bullet in the night, following the beat of her heart which seemed to dwindle with each passing second, urging me to move faster. She felt weak, so very weak.
***
When I arrived I could see her laying on the dirty ground with what smelt like her blood covering her like a sticky bloody tattoo. And a strange man was looming over her laughing like a mad man. Rage tore through my body like a knife through butter. My blood boiled in anger. How dare he hurt my mate?! How dare he make her bleed! No one dares touch her.
He bent low over her body like a creep, inhaling and taking in the event of her blood. As he reached to attempt to touch her face. In super speed I was beside him, gripping his hand so tight and crushing it not caring about the cracking sounds of his bones. I ripped his arm from his body. It grew back almost instantaneous.
"If you touch even a single hair on her head one more time, I'm going to cut your bloody head off and feed it to the wild animals of this forest." I threatened and I was never known to make an empty threat. I threw him away, with a thud his body slammed on to a tree then another tree and then to the ground.
"Who in the fucking hell are you?! And how dare you even touch me, werewolf. Do you know what I am?!" He snarled, wiping some blood off his lips as he tried rearranging his bones.
"What are you? A dead man that's for sure. And I would tell you my name but it's no use seeing as you're about to lose your head any moment now if you don't watch your tongue." I chuckled. "But since you're about to die anyways my name is Dimitri Axel Castellan '' I smirked as I could see the shock and fear in his eyes, calling me insane but I always enjoyed seeing the fear in my enemy's eyes. Actually I reveled in it. He knew who I was, what I had done. Whatever version of the story he must have heard about me wasn't a good one, that I was always sure about. There was never a good side to the story.
I was never one to chit chat so in a flash my hand was sawing his head off his body in a clean swipe. Fuck it! I got blood on my shirt, not that I cared having a bit of blood on me but his blood was strange. It was black as coal. It was like nothing I had seen before.
His body fell on its knees, limp to the ground while his head rolled to somewhere around the bushes and blood spilled across the floor. The bastard was as good as dead now. Immediately I turned back to see my mate laying on the floor as she trembled in pain. I couldn't control myself as I rushed to her side, cupping her little head in my hands. I could smell the poison coming off from her.
"Save me!" She managed to whisper through her pale white lips. At those words I felt something inside me snap, I don't know what it was but I couldn't help feeling the need to protect and shield her from the eyes of this entire cruel world. She wasn't waking up. I placed my palm on her forehead, she was burning up fast and it seemed like dark magic poisoning.
"Hang on, I'm here now. You're safe." I clenched on my jaws as I spoke. Why did I feel an unending urge to protect her so much?
"Mom, please save me!" She muttered as I could see a single tear roll off her eyes and onto her cheeks. She was in great agony, she needed to see a healer. I had to rush her to the pack's doctor. Quick or she would die.
I lifted her, racing back to the pack. It's really funny how destiny goes. The one I always wanted gone is the one I now wanted nothing other than to protect. I could hear my mother's words replay in my head as I muttered along.
"Those destined for each other are bound to cross paths one way or the other. It is bound by the moon and was fated by destiny herself" indeed my mother was right after all. She always was.
I arrived at the pack, rushing her to the infirmary. I mindlinked Celeste to come to attend to her. Agnes, our pack's greatest healer, tended to her wounds but she needed a witch's diagnosis. This was magical poisoning.
Celeste examined her, accessing the damage caused by that bastard's poisoning.
"How is she Celeste?" I ask, growing impatient of the silence suffocating the room.
"The worst part is over." She announced, causing me to breathe a breath of relief.
"She is strong, most humans would have died from this amount of poisoning." She added. She was my mate after all, she was tough as hell. I knew this because of our first encounter. Never had I met someone who spoke to me in that manner, she was bold and brave. She wouldn't be silenced by anyone.
"Then why isn't she waking up?" I questioned. If truly the worst part was over, then why wasn't she waking up?
"There are still traces of the poison in her. It is stopping her from making a full recovery." Celeste said with a sigh. She brought forth a box containing several vials of black liquids.
"She needs to take this serum everyday. It is a magical antidote I brewed and will help her fight against the poison." Celeste said, one of the pack's servants was about to take the serum but I dismissed her.
"I will be the one to take care of administering the cure from now on. Thank you." I spoke, taking the box of antidotes.
"Already growing fond of her?" Celeste said. The old witch had an unknown look in her eyes. It was an amusement.
"No. She doesn't mean much to me." I answered.
"Remember the prophecy Dimitri, she could either be the pack's destruction or our last hope." Celeste reminded me.
"Yes I haven't forgotten that. I know exactly how to handle her." I assured her. I understood the prophecy very well and what it meant.
"Good. Let's pray for her speedy recovery." She left the room, leaving me and my mate alone.
I moved by her side, wiping off the sweat on her forehead with a towel.
"No! No! Please no!" She murmured under her breath as she twisted and writhed on the bed. She was in great pain.
I held onto her hands, drawing and sharing in her pain. I took away the pain she felt. I watched as her breathing became more calm and stable, her pain had subsided.
"What a mystery you are Isabella. I wish I could see what was going on in your mind." I sighed, watching her as she slept peacefully.
I took out the bracelet I found by her side in the forest. It belonged to her, I remembered seeing it on her wrist during our encounter at coffee bay.
"Don't worry. I'm here now, I will protect you." I whispered.
Unknown point of view
"When the skies cry blood the earth is fertilized with something- dark, something evil-, something wicked!" A slow but wicked laughter crawled out my lips echoing all around my dark solitary chambers, as I hummed the lullaby Mockingbird.
I haven't left the four corners of this room for the past eleven days. I was already running out of time, I needed to find her before the Blood Moon. It's been fifteen years now and I haven't felt our family ancestral magic anywhere. It was almost as if it was wiped off the face of the earth. Well almost.
I gasped allowing an evil smirk to crept up my crimson red lips, while my eyes fluttered wide open welcoming the darkness around. I immediately stood up from my mid air meditation.
I can suddenly feel her now. I could feel little Bella, my niece after all this time.
It was like I could feel all the energy bottled up for fifteen years was finally tipped off over the edge, causing it to shatter and all that energy could be felt everywhere. And she is quite closer than I had thought. I could find her.
Every step I took echoed around until I met my magical workshop. It smelt like death, with traces of blood still seen on my sacrificial altar.
"Illuminous" I mumbled, snapping my fingers, instantly my room was lit up by red burning candles and I flipped through the pages of my grimoire to find a location spell and there it was. This spell would be able to pinpoint my niece's exact location, wherever she was hiding in.
"Let's see now, my little niece. Where could you be?" I could hear Scylla hiss in excitement, as she slithered her way towards me. She knew more than anybody how long I had to wait for this day to come but no more waiting. She had been able to hide from me and evade the clutches of my Red Circle coven but not any more, not this time. Time was already wearing thin and I needed to have her at all cost if my plans to raise up the Darkness would happen.
I opened a cage, taking out a black raven bird. It cawed, fluttering his wings repeatedly, making me squeeze on its neck even tighter.
"Insidous ankse revelus potem…" I said the spell twisting the birds neck, putting an end to it's little protest. As soon as it's blood touched my hands, I inhaled deeply as series of visions flew by my mind trying to show me her exact location. I could see her now.
"Yes! Yes! I can see it all now. There you are." I giggled as I saw where she resided and it wasn't as far away as I thought. I saw her laying on a bed, she looked pale and beside her was a man. I knew exactly who he was. He was Dimitri Axel Castellan, the last lycan king. What was he doing with her?
I don't care what they were doing together, that didn't matter. He didn't matter to my plan. What truly mattered was where they were.
"Bournville. She hides in Bournville." I turned around wasting no time. I needed to get her. This was my only chance before the Blood Moon rose. I needed to get to her. I pushed open the doors of my Chambers, storming out into the night.
"Mistress!" Yennefer said, rushing to my side as soon as I stepped out of my chambers.
Yennefer was my best witch in the Red Circle coven and was a natural born killer, she showed no mercy or weakness, none at all. She was my very own prodigy. It was no wonder she rose in rank to my second in command. Before I met her she was a petty pathetic thief whose parents abandoned when she was just eight because they feared she was the incarnation of the devil when she threw her sister off the roof.
Her foolish parents called the priest to perform an exorcism but the poor child didn't just have any control of her unique abilities, yet.
Now that's what I call true power. Power isn't meant to be controlled and guided with restrictions and red tapes. True power is meant to be wielded and bent to your own will with no limitations whatsoever. After I took her under my wings she went back to show her family what a monster truly was. I guess you could say I saw myself in this little witch. She was my greatest weapon.
"Yennefer, tell your sisters, we leave tonight. I have found her." her bright purple eyes widened and without any further questions Yennefer nodded her head running off to spread the word. I haven't seen my little niece in fifteen years, I wonder if she missed me as much as I did her. Well I was about to find that out. I am literally dying for a family reunion.
