He did some more research and realized that there's a bad habit in the current art collection market. Collectors tend to "collect artists", not "collect works".
In reality, the works of the same artist can vary greatly in quality, even vastly different in some cases, particularly in calligraphy, where this problem is even more pronounced than in painting.
When Li Shi was doing his research, he saw that some well-known calligraphers had works that commanded high prices, yet were far from their stellar pieces, let alone being exceptional or masterpiece quality.
The strange thing is, sometimes their better works fetch lower prices.
"My approach of not letting anything less than exceptional leave my hands will probably make me stand out in the calligraphy industry…. But who cares, I never intended to join any circles anyway."
