Chapter 6 - Finale : Choral Speaking

It takes time for the wound to heal. Who am I to deal with this trivial scratching when something important may begin to happen soon? The choral speaking competition is close to hitting, and I don't have spare moments to meditate. I must continue to focus on this team's choral speaking. The experience from yesterday is still fresh in my mind, and I need to be positive about it.

"All right, we'll start practicing right now." I was speaking strictly to my teammates.

The fever for choral speaking causes the warmth of our breath to hit our faces, and we practice and practice to be impressive. As a natural outcome, the English teacher will be knowledgeable about how attentively we practice.

"I'm super proud of you today, because you guys put in so much effort, we may get dismissed early. Remember, we only have two days left to practice. Make sure you did the your best. Fighting!" My English teacher said proudly.

The teacher was overjoyed. I'm relieved. I did everything I could. No, we do our best performance. That is not just my effort, but also our teamwork. We need to stand tall like a giant, to be more confident than ever. We may be lost, but why not raise our hopes to become a winner. These sentences are quite motivational.

The Competition's Day

I got lost on the way to the competition. My heart is pounding so loudly that it's a miracle I'm still alive today. Oh yeah, I told you right away, the competition is today! I can't seem to stop overthinking things. The nervousness flowing through my veins seized my entire heart. I need to take a deep breath and soothe myself up a little bit. "All right, Elly, you can do it! "Break a leg!" I said in my heart.

My teammates and I walked to the large hall which was in front of us. There already seemed to be a lot of participants sitting in their seats, so we began to walk to our own seats. The stage is big, and I feel like my heart is about to burst with so many participants, whom I genuinely think are more skilled than me. Oh great, my confidence is about to drop dramatically. No! I need to focus on myself as well as my teammates. I need to be confident and trust them.

When the MC appears on the stage, the competition begins. The MC invited all the teams' teachers to the stage to vote on which teams would go first. My team is number 5 to perform. Damn, so nervous. The conductor and the team are striving diligently to deliver greater potential performance. We sat and watched them like were a cat on hot bricks. Jumpy and tense. To be honest, I felt drowsy while watching them perform because I didn't get enough sleep the night before. Because of my excitement as well as slightly nervous

Until our turn comes.

I walked onto the stage, bowed to the judges and the audience, and clapped as my teammates gathered in lines together. I was in the middle of our performance and couldn't vividly remember who was supposed to deliver the lines next. I intended to take my time, like 2 seconds, but one of my teammates beat me to it and started reading aloud first. 'Well, he didn't trust me to remember it,' I acknowledged the fact. Our teammates wrap up this story after approximately 6 minutes. I clapped for my teammates to make them exit in lines and bowed to the judges and the audience. I took a deep breath in and exhaled softly. Finally, it's the end.

Unfortunately, we did not win in the end. It's acceptable. We've already successfully accomplished it. Another memorable high school experience. Our English teacher drives us to school. We went our separate ways. I forgot to tell you that before we parted ways, we captured our adventures together as we are truly happy. We bid our goodbyes as their parents arrived to take them home. Meanwhile, I walked home by myself.

"I'm home." I informed my mother.

"How was your experience with it? Are you the winner?" My mother started asking questions, excitedly.

"I genuinely wish to win, but Mr. Lucky did not 'wish' me there. We were defeated. But nevertheless, it's a really great performance that comes to us." I said with a warm smile.

"I really like the thought of you, Elly. I'm extremely proud of you. You performed to the best of your ability regardless of whether you won or not right! Go take showers first, and then we'll eat dinner. " My mother says.

"Okay, mother." I replied.

I dropped my bag by the side of the bed and went to shower. Today's competition helped me to better understand that, while we may hope to be the best, someone might perform better than us. They all try their hardest to achieve something. Which is the number one in choral speaking. That's a match custom, whether we win or defeat. One thing I always believe is that trusting your teammates will boost your performance. Because we have faith in one another. Build faith in us which on an everyday basis practice as we aim to win. To avoid losing hope, we had to bury our belief that we would always win.

When one of the teams commits a mistake, the light in the eyes dims automatically. That clearly indicates they've given up. And it will keep on committing mistakes, and their voices will only become smaller. That is why trusting teammates is extremely important for us to not keep failing. I sigh softly.

We have dinner and share about our everyday activities. After eating, I washed the dishes and started preparing the bed. I lay in bed, unable to open my eyes.

"Good night, mother."

"Good night, Elly."

I yawn and my eyes take a lead to close off. In the deep sleep, my mind stopped producing the idea of thinking and began to dream.

Poetic feels:

Not everything we desires,

Come easily into our hands,

It takes time,

We must to wait patiently,

Until the moment comes.

Don't give up.
