As night fell, Adrian returned to his room after a tiring day of studying and dealing with a difficult person. He quietly opened the door and found Anna sitting on the bed, her attention turning to him as she heard his approach.
"You're back?" she asked, her eyes scanning his shirtless body until they landed on his wound, causing a concerned expression to appear on her face.
"Damn it," he silently cursed. He had removed the bandage, and now she could clearly see the wound.
"You got stabbed?" she said, her voice filled with disbelief.
He exhaled, trying to avoid her gaze. "It's just a misunderstanding. It's not what you think."
"What do I think? That a misunderstanding would result in a knife in your stomach?" she scoffed, her boldness surprising him. He wondered what had happened to her while he was away.
"It's not like that, Anna," he calmly replied.
