Chereads / .The King. / Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

The war was over, and the reign of House Targaryen and the reign of Robert Baratheon has begun, in this war, he lost many friends who were divided between the two sides. And he also lost his sister, he was sad about that, but he could do nothing to save her, he had the order to go to king's landing to see to inform Robert about the death of his fiancée after all he was the new king.

But Arthur Dayne told him that it was better to go to the north, Arthur did not oppose any resistance to his arrival, he let pass without a problem, as he promised his sister, on the way they talked about Arthur was going to stop being royal guard, because he was not going to feel comfortable serving the new king, knowing that Prince Rhaegar was his best friend, so it was better to go north and train his nephew in the art of the sword.

But Eddard was not alone, he was accompanied by his fiancée Catelyn Tully who was carrying his little son Rob in her arms, he was happy to know that he was a father, but apparently, his fiancée was not entirely happy because Ned was holding his bastard son in his arms.

He had to talk to Catelyn about it, but any thoughts disappeared when he could see his home, Winterfell, from afar it looked much bigger than it was when he went to the valley to train under Jon Arryn's hand.

There were more towers, and more soldiers in different kinds of armor, outside the city, were a large number of soldiers who were training younger ones, and there were also women. That caught the attention of Ned, and Arthur who saw that some fought with two swords shorter than normal, but not to tell him blades, but these were made of wood to not hurt his opponent a very good choice to not generate losses in his army.

There were different types of soldiers, and different types of armor, something that caught his attention powerfully because that was not heard in the war, so he wondered what the fuck did the north when the others were more pending war.

When they entered Winterfell he saw that the place had more space, yes it was much bigger than it was before and much busier. Ned, Catelyn, and Arthur got off their horses and stood looking around, and realized they were being watched.

Arthur took off his two swords, wearing a black suit that covered his whole body and a silver mask over his face, there were 10 of them around him, he did not understand what was happening, he thought that since Ned was with him no one was going to attack.

- "Persians" - Benjen Stark arrived to calm the situation, the Persians were the personal guard of Winterfell, and a group of these swift warriors stayed there, they were a total of 50 people, 40 rode inside Winterfell and 10 were outside training the next Persians, to be a Persian you had to be good with two swords, fast and agile, where it didn't matter if you were male or female, both were qualified to be a member of the Persian army - "Welcome home... Brother" - Benjen looked at his older brother, no doubt he changed a lot, the same way the north changed, in such a short time - "Our nephew is expecting us... a meeting with some northern lords."

.

Royal Hall (Winterfell)

Who would have thought that a boy would be able to bring so many new things to the north, Harry was now 14 years old and all the lords in the hall was happy with their king as they called him.

For the northerners the southerners could go to hell, they were not going to follow the crown, they were going to follow Harry Stark, if the boy right now wished for a war against the useless southerners, for days not sleeping and not feeling the warmth that a woman could give you either.

The lords had to work.

The wine was practically forbidden during working hours, although some lords found it hard at first if they wished to help their king, they had to make a sacrifice and every sacrifice was worth it.

All the lords were happy and knew that more good things were to come, but today they noticed that Harry was upset, they were sure it was not because of the death of his aunt Lyanna, a great blow no doubt as the she-wolf was much loved. The loss of his aunt was not felt so much, because Harry was angry at how stupid his uncle is, when Eddard Stark touched northern lands, he was informed that no soldier he sent returned with him. Only he, his wife, his uncle Arthur, and two children.

And where the fuck were the 10,000 soldiers that went with him to war, he knew the 10,000 couldn't come back, it was a war that was going to have losses, but he never expected any of those 10,000 to come back.

Didn't his uncle realize they were using the Northerners as bait, why didn't he do anything when Jon Arryn was sacrificing his own in the bloody war. That bothered him, he was saddened by the loss of his aunt, and he planned everything he could to save her from marriage to Robert, but in the end, he couldn't as she passed away, a huge loss and more so now that the family had to be together, he just hoped she would be happy wherever she was.

When the door to the hall opened Benjen knew his nephew was angry and he knew why he was angry, it was not so much that he realized instantly that no man that was sent came back, but he was not going to be able to do anything, as that was not his place, it was the duty of the ruler of the north, to give Eddard a talk, about what happened in the war, and the changes. That was and will be given, so he took a seat while Eddard, Catelyn, and Arthur were left at one end of the room.

- "Welcome Uncle Ned...it's been a year since we last saw each other" - Harry got up from the northern throne and went to the map of the west where he stopped and moved a piece that had the figure of a wolf, to the valley where the figure of a seagull was - "You know, uncle... I should be sad about the loss of my aunt.... but I'm angry... you know why?" - Harry hit the seagull piece to leave the wolf piece in the valley, which made the lords think they were going to invade the valley - "10,000 soldiers, of that 10,000 none came back... explain to me... how we lost 10,000 soldiers if there was no fucking Dragon."

Harry might be 14 years old, but he commanded respect and fear, the lords knew that perhaps Eddard could feel a little of the fury his nephew could command, but Eddard didn't quite know how to answer Harry's question. He knew perfectly well that all the lords in this place wanted an answer, why no one was thinking of defending him, it didn't matter if they were friends or had respect for him, not even his brother was going to interfere.

Benjen knew that everyone in this place had a deep respect for Harry, he had earned it in this year of work, where he made it clear, this is only the beginning.

They knew that the lords here were going to follow Harry in everything he asked, they were even going to follow him to hell if he convinced them that they were going to come back alive. His nephew was good with words, he knew how to motivate his allies and how to strike fear into his enemies, that's why he was considered a true Stark, even though he had southern blood. That mattered to no one, Harry was a Northerner, and anyone who said otherwise had to face the fury of the North.

- "Tomorrow we leave for the king's landing... we lost 10,000 men... the crown will have to pay for those men... or they are going to meet the north" - With that all the lords growled, it was obvious that they want to be free of the fucking crown and the fucking southerners, although Harry made them understand that it was not yet the time, the other kingdoms were going to turn against them and that was bad - "Now that we made something clear... who is the child you have in your arms... did you have twins?"

- "No... he is Jon Snow... my bastard" - Eddard earned the look of all the lords, and some began to laugh since it was impossible that Eddard Stark has a bastard, nobody with brains was going to believe it, while Catelyn only looked angry, she was angry with Eddard for being unfaithful to her, and apparently, Harry was going to punish him - "While my wife Catelyn holds my son Robb Stark."

- "You know, I hate being lied to, someone without a brain was going to believe that stupidity" - Harry approached his uncle Ned, who was nervous, although he was trying to disguise it and failing to and that caused much more amusement to the northern lords - "This is my aunt Lyanna's son isn't it."

And the laughter stopped, at first they thought that Ned brought a child he found around since his parents died because of the war, and he brought him and passed him off as his bastard, but Harry's words made everyone shut up since it meant that Rhaegar had abused Lyanna.

That made several feel anger inside, of course, Ned for fear that someone would ask for the newborn's head, he was willing to give his life, and his sister asked him that he would protect him no matter what. He knew that if Robert found out about it, he was going to kill him, he wasn't going to doubt it for a second since his beloved winter flower was raped and had a child with a Targaryen bastard.

But Harry looked at him with different eyes, the boy was hope, and the boy had some magic running through his body, the same way Daenerys did.

He knew perfectly well that the Targaryen did incest to keep the lineage pure, it was not going to be bad to create the Targaryen house again but with the law of the north, the dragons of the north, that was certainly going to be good, so Harry gave a smile, that brought everyone out of their thoughts.

- "His name is Jon Stark, Lady Catelyn, knowing the truth, will not mind passing Jon off as Rob's twin, so that no one will suspect... it is what my aunt would wish" - Harry looked at the woman, who now seemed to have taken a burden off her shoulders, she was a good woman, so he nodded to Harry's request, and of course, a little magic helped that decision, he did not want trouble in the family - "Don't be surprised, Uncle Ned... Sir Arthur had informed Aunt Lyanna's pregnancy in advance, and I know she will want Jon to be accepted... and so he will be."

Eddard was grateful, Jon was going to be able to grow up as his sister had asked him, and apparently, all the lords agreed with Harry's decision, a child was not to blame, so they were not going to do anything to the boy, they were going to raise him as a northerner, and much better because now he was not going to live with the pressure of being a bastard as Eddard had planned.

So Eddard's business ended, and he and his wife went to the empty seats leaving only Arthur standing in front of his sister's son and of course his nephew.

The northerners passed their gaze over him, one of the best swordsmen that had ever touched the west, for he was in the north, and the door of the northern royal hall opened, and Harry's mother entered, Ashara was with a little girl, who everyone knew as Princess Lyanna. She entered happy as she was informed that her brother was at Winterfell, though her son had not told her that the meeting had begun. Next to her was another person who was hooded which caught everyone's attention, but as her lord did nothing, everyone remained quiet.

- "Sister... it's been so long since we met, you haven't aged" - Arthur always supported his sister, he was the third son of the Dayne house, and he knew that Ashara had to be the head of the family, although she wanted to establish a family in the north and it didn't go badly - "I know we were in opposite sides... Rhaegar was my best friend, he lost in battle with the new king, which I cannot serve in memory of my friend... so I ask to be a knight of the north and protect my sister and nephews."

Nobody was going to deny that Arthur was going to be a fundamental piece in the northern army, practically his facility to fight with two swords, that at least made him fight against three men at the same time and defeat them.

And of course, there was the factor that Arthur could not go home, his brother and father were going to force him back into the royal guard, and he did not want that. For a while, he thought about starting a family, and what better way than in a free place, where he was sure he could be a soldier, but he was going to have a family.

Harry was not very close to the Dayne family, when Ashara knew she was pregnant she no longer touched southern soil and stayed there because she was afraid of what her relatives might do. So Ashara knew that if Harry ever went to Dorne he was going to bump into his grandfather and uncle who were in the south. Even though she was a Southerner, she liked being in the North, there was more freedom, even sometimes she no longer behaved like a lady as she was raised in the South, but like a true Northerner who didn't care about anything, only to be respected.

- "You are welcome in the north, and I hope you are not a traitor, because family or not... the punishment for treason is death" - That was the law of the north, Harry was the head of the ruling house, and to betray Harry was to betray the Starks, to betray the Starks meant to betray the north, death was assured - "Have a seat, Uncle Arthur" - With that everyone was in one place, where the only one standing was Harry - "During the war, the north was working... we created six armies, which are now increasing... then we have all the army that each house can raise" - The creation of those armies no doubt was something that seemed crazy, but it went super well, all and thanks to the good management of things - "Before the captains of each army come in... I want to know how things are going."

.

Dorne.

Oberyn Martell, also known as the Red Viper of Dorne, is an exceptional fighter, his speed and skill with spear and sword are known in the kingdom, an energetic and vigorous man of quick wit and viperine tongue.

He studied at the Citadel for a time and went on to forge several maester links, as expected he got bored and left the order leaving everyone upset, but what could they do, he was a prince after all, and one who wasn't afraid to kill them.

He traveled the world and even went so far as to form his own company of mercenaries.

He had a very close relationship with his sister Elia and as children the two were inseparable. So much so that he would kill his blood for their second, he didn't know how the fuck they ended up in the north, but they were safe there, he constantly received letters from his sister, and he would answer them, there was no way they could fool him because they knew his sister's handwriting, it was almost similar to his only with a few variations in some letters.

His affection for his sister was incredible so much that many thought he had an incestuous relationship, but it was not true, Elia was a year older than him, because of the shortage difference, and his older brother was not the kindest of all, that affection was forged.

The war was over and Robert won, but that did not matter much to him, the Lannisters as good opportunists gave him the throne, and as his brother told him, Tywin Lannister was angry because he could not find Elia and her children. He wanted to eliminate his sister, that bothered him a lot, he loved his sister, so much that she was the one to whom he listened to an opinion he gave, Elia was smart so much that if Doran died and she occupied the throne of Dorne no one was going to complain because everyone in Dorne respected her and if they didn't he was going to make them respect her.

But since he arrived in the north Elia had told him that it was much better that he occupies the throne of Dorne, it is true in Dorne they were afraid of him, he knew that, but it was boring to rule so he never did anything, if Doran was his brother but they were not brothers who were so fond of each other because Doran distanced himself from Elia as much as from him, because of the age difference.

And with the last events, Oberyn made the decision to take the throne of Dorne, and it was not going to be something difficult, the guards of Dorne did not respect Doran, not even the houses of Dorne respected him, only for fear of being poisoned by Oberyn they continued without making any movement.

Oberyn walked towards his brother who was sitting on a chair, he could not move, the medicine he used to calm his pain, was modified a little to also make his muscles sleep for a while so he could not do anything but watch his younger brother kill his 8 most loyal soldiers.

And he didn't do it with help, he did it by himself, demonstrating his skill, slowly he approached his older brother and stood looking at him, because of the drug that was in his body he couldn't speak, it was much better because just by looking at him he was realizing that he was wanting to say thousands of insults towards his person. Well, he didn't care at all, he was upset with his older brother because he was going to send a note to the crown where he specified that Dorne was going to look for Elia and deliver them for a fair trial, that bothered him, Doran was going to betray his family to look good with the crown and then play the game, that bothered him, that's why he made this decision even though it hurt him to do that to his family, he was not going to allow his beloved nephews to die at the hands of the stupid golden lions.

- "This is the consequence brother, it hurts me to do this, you have no idea how much, but I will not let my sister be raped, by who knows how many men and then killed" - With the spear Oberyn made a small wound on his brother's cheek, as was his custom, the spear was poisoned, but it was not a poison that was going to make his brother suffer, no, the poison was going to make him sleepy, and he would die as if nothing happened - "I will take care of Dorne and kill Tywin Lannister."

.

Casterly Rock.

Tyrion was in charge of Casterly Rock now that his father was in king's landing, to make his sister Cersei marry Robert, he hoped that his sister would do a good job although he doubted that, because of her behavior and her attitude of thinking she was superior to anyone.

Cersei thought she was someone as smart as her father, but she wasn't, he wasn't going to deny that she was someone smart, but she didn't even come close to his father's heels, only in the ruthless part Cersei was equal or worse than her father.

He wasn't going to deny it he didn't get along very well with her, their relationship was the worst of all, and it was worse now that his father had him much more fond of him, it was certainly odd that his father would defend him when he argued with his brother about him being able to give advice, it was extremely rare, but he wasn't going to get used to that. He knew his father was using him and he was using him in the same way, House Lannister itself had many enemies, the Northerners, the Dornish, and the Dominion, any one of them could be responsible for his father's death.

His father had given him an immense amount of land as he gave him Castamere was the settlement of the House Reyne, which is located south of the ridge and west of Marcaceniza, near Torre Tarbeck which was also within his domain, these two castles were his and he had to be in charge of their reconstruction and that the mines that were under those two castles have to be mobilized.

Tarbeck Tower was going to be used for blacksmithing, since he was not going to live in that place, it was impossible to raise it again in a proper way, he was going to spend a lot of time and a lot of money, so he was going to raise just enough and necessary to make a good enough blacksmith shop for his father to be happy. While Castamere would be his home, to some extent, since he was ambitious he was not going to deny it, why not keep Casterly Rock for himself?

He renounced to be the heir, but only to save the life of his fiancée, who did not care about wealth, she wanted a quiet life and a family, but he wanted to give her everything, a more than comfortable life. And that's where his father's heir came in, one of Cersei's sons.

He knew that no one was going to have respect for his stature, but if he made the future heir dependent on him, he could get away with staying at Casterly Rock, even though his life sucked, he knew that the best place to raise his children was at Casterly Rock.

He could raise them in Castamere with no problem, he could make a castle so beautiful that he was going to make this place a zero to the left. But one thing Castamere didn't have, was how imposing the castle was, he was going to raise his nephew to the top, he was sure of that, but he was going to make him dependent on him, every idea he had would always have to be consulted to his person.

He was going to be the advisor, he was going to make money from the mine he had at Castamere and from the smithy, he wished to set up at Tarbeck Tower, but he was not going to leave Casterly Rock, he was going to stay here. And before he died, he was going to laugh at his father's grave.

But now he had other plans, after a long time he finally found out who he was working with, who he was sending the information to. It was about the North, and that alone meant something, the north was changing, and that was not going to please his father, which meant that he was going to be able to influence more in the decision-making than his heir would have since his father was going to be much busier with the northern alliance.

- "Dear what's going on?" - Tysha looked at her fiancé who was quietly reading the cargo that came from the north, she knew everything that was going on in Tyrion's mind, he was her fiancé, perhaps many would label her as crazy for sleeping with someone like him, they judged him for being a dwarf, she didn't see that, he saw a man, a highly intelligent man who loved her, not like other lords who only saw her as a prize and were surely going to cheat on her.

- "We will take a weight off our shoulders, the north will support my father so that Robert marries Cersei, apparently Lyanna Stark died" - Tyrion knew perfectly well that his father was not going to shake his hand to kill the wolf girl, right now he was looking for Elia Martell to kill her, he communicated that to Lord Stark who was behind everything - "It seems that I will have a new friend, Oberyn Martell... we have many things in common."

.

King's Landing

Tywin gave the city on a silver platter to Robert, and his son killed the king, which raised the prestige of the Lannister house much more because although they were the last to act, they were the ones who gave the decisive blow to the war. They chose who won, that was what was going to be remembered, but there was something that bothered the golden lion about all this, which was that his men did not find Elia Martell and her children, and they disappeared.

That had him thinking, did Elia go back to Dorne, which was denied by his older brother Doran who was going to help search for his sister for a fair trial. Tywin saw the move Doran was going to make, bring his sister back and have Robert spare his life, and then have someone he trusted to take a seat on the king's council.

A smart thing to do if he had a say but there was a big problem. Jon Arryn was not going to allow the Martells to have the power they had when Elia was married to Prince Rhaegar. The Martells became a power with that marriage, and you didn't have to be an idiot to know why they had to have the Dorneans weak, just like the Northerners.

The two kingdoms that were more difficult to conquer by the Targaryen, perhaps not killing Elia could benefit him a lot, he agreed with his son to have the north as an ally, a weak north was what they saw, so he had to give him a little hand to make the north look a little strong and they were going to support the Lannisters so that the queen is Cersei.

And Dorne was another rebellious kingdom, so it was going to cause a lot of headaches for Jon Arryn which would cause him to make a lot of mistakes where he could influence to remove him and take his place as the king's hand, where he was going to have total control of the kingdom. He did this with the former king which caused his envy and well, there he was dead and the Targaryen dynasty was no more.

With Robert on the throne, his job was going to be much easier than anything else, as he was surely going to be busy drinking and being in some brothel enjoying a whore. He wasn't interested at all as long as he had children with his daughter, which would mean the Lannisters would reign, even if they had the Baratheon surname, it was his grandchildren that would be in power.

His blood.

Jon Arryn looked at Tywin Lannister in a very disguised way, the guy was dangerous, since Robert arrived at the King's Landing, and Tywin gave him the crown, he told him that he had to look for a queen, and in his opinion, the best option was his daughter, but Miss Lyanna Stark did not come with Eddard Stark.

The way he spoke about Lyanna was extremely rare, Tywin was not going to allow that girl to take away the possibility of having his daughter as queen, but apparently, if she came he would have no problem with her being queen. That was going to lead to the North backing him to make Tywin the king's hand, and he was going to be out of the way.

The lion planned everything, but he was sure that Eddard was going to come out in favor of his master until he remembered a small detail, Eddard was not the lord ruler of the north, the son of Brandon who only sent 10,000 men to the war. Those who were sacrificed for his person, they were northerners after all, they were savages and the only thing they were good for was to be sacrificed, but he hoped that Eddard had more authority than anyone else in the north, so they would be able to quietly remove anything from that place.

With a single glance, Tywin realized that Jon was worried, the guy was easy to read, and his expressions were very obvious, he recently learned that Moat Cailin was rebuilt, which meant that something was happening in the north.

With the Targaryen on the throne, they could never raise that fortress, but with the war, they built it the new lord of House Stark was dangerous, he learned that he only sent 10,000 men very few knowing the amount of bannermen that can raise the house Stark, but none was from another northern house, only soldiers of House Stark.

That worried him, Tyrion told him that it was better to be an ally of House Stark because of Robert's affection for that house, but now he realized that his son was seeing something he did not see, he was going to have a conversation with him when he returns to Casterly rock, he wanted to know why he did not tell him about this, or maybe he was not sure. Tyrion did not wish to give wrong information as he was afraid of what might happen to his betrothed, but still, he had to talk to his son.

- "Why the fuck Ned still does not arrive with Lyanna?" - It was the roar of Robert who was furious because he wanted to see his winter flower, he was angry because his best friend still did not return, that impatience was seen mainly by Tywin who hid his happiness, something had to happen for that Lyanna Stark to not arrive at the king's landing - "Damn ... damn ... did not arrive a fucking letter from Ned."

- "My King, a letter has arrived for you" - Varys the spider arrived, another extremely dangerous subject but no doubt he was needed for his spy network - "Eddard Stark, went straight north by order of his nephew, for the total loss of his army" - That only made Jon look with nervousness, and Tywin with joy, the lord of the north was not as idiotic as others - "It does not specify when Eddard Stark will arrive in the North, that's all that letter has said."

The game has begun.
