Chapter 32 - (32) Thirty origin stones

Carrying Belvan's corpse to the beggar's alleyway would be extremely dangerous, due to the risk of being caught by soldiers walking through the main street.

Just walking on the street this deep into the night, might gather unwanted attention. The soldier patrolling the area would find them more than suspicious.

For that reason, Mangrel mapped a route coming a little in contact with the main street. It was easy sailing thanks to the complex alleyway structure in the fifth sector. Almost all the streets were connected to the alley, one way or another.

Through this, Mangrel once again showed his immense mental capability. He was able to remember the area he went to once and even the specifics.

'However, in the end, it's impossible to carry him back through the route I found. Moving in a group of two, we had somehow escaped the sentry's eyes. Carrying a dead body, on the other hand, would make us distinctly visible to others.' Mangrel was still lost in his thoughts while looking at the wooden boxes.

Belvan's corpse gave rise to an inexplicable headache within Mangrel. If thought logically, it was impossible in more than one way, to transport him to the area he desired.

'Do I have no choice but to cut his body into pieces?' Mangrel frowned.

With the loss of blood, of course, the power of the life force physique would be mildly affected. Every part of his body was affected by the immature awakening. Even now, Mangrel could feel his life force being pulled toward Belvan's corpse.

'....If it's fed enough life force, the body would awaken as a life force physique completely. But do I have the time for that...?' Mangrel asked himself.

Surely raising his strength quickly would give him a better survival chance, and many other possible paths would have opened for him.

"Sigh...Greed is the enemy of all beings." Mangrel discarded all his desires rising like a ferocious dragon.

One must know his limit, trying to go beyond it with no proper assurance was the height of foolishness. Being controlled by greed, like hyenas attracted to wildebeest or antelope, would just lead to a disaster.

'What was done once could never be undone, hence we must take the best possible action in every step of our life. Life is to be lived with no regrets!'

'Human greed has no limit, but getting blinded by this emotion means becoming nothing more than a mindless animal. Pitiful! Nevertheless, people and cultivators die like flies because of their greed.'

Mangrel's eyes grew colder, reaching a freezing point. He became resolute, deciding his next course of action swiftly. He never liked wasting time on a single topic for long.

'I have already taken care of all the leads to my poison, in the alleyway, Mars's house, everywhere, there is no need for me to head back and take unnecessary risk.'

Mangrel thought with determination: 'I will use Belvan's corpse to become a cultivator right here. The benefits might be reduced, however, there is no easy alternative.'

Fully awakening Belvan's life force physique was out of the question too. It would take nearly a month to accomplish that, but becoming a cultivator was an important step in Mangrel's plan. Without becoming one, it would not be possible to execute the next step of his plan.

Feeling all the worries off his shoulder, Mangrel pulled the box before him. It was just too heavy for him to pick it up, hence he just rolled it to the side, sprawling all its content down.

Spreading all the things within the box on the floor, Mangrel saw many dark brown materials fall like rain.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Blandly transparent gray rocks fell on the ground at the end too, they were half an adult fist size. And a strange kind of radiance was released by it, making it seem unnatural.

A origin stone.

Ten of them, which was enough for a normal family to live worry-free for 30 years. However, for the beginning cultivator, it was an amount just enough to last for two months at most.

'These are probably the origin stones, Jwarlen smuggled by himself. The beggar organization would never allow him to keep any origin stone. The monopoly of resources is normal for such an organization anyway.' Mangrel turned to the barks of the tree beside the origin stone.

They were rank zero wood path materials named — sword root trees' bark.

It has many sharp blades growing from its roots, which was the most important part, selling in the upper tier price within the list of rank zero material.

The second was the bark, having a rough texture and pointy edges. It was mainly used for stronger house construction.

'They will sell for around four origin stones.' Calculating the prize, Mangrel moved to the other two boxes too.

They contained — Asura jade, a rank zero wind path material, and ribcage branch, a wood path material in rank zero.

Along with these materials, ten origin stones were found in both boxes.

Making it thirty origin stones in total.

'This much is more than enough to make an array, to absorb this half-awakened life force physique. It would have been troubling if it was fully awakened though.'

Organizing all the things in order, Mangrel glanced at the rag bags.

They contained the body parts of beasts of many types.

If Mangrel were to sell all of the things here, he could nearly make another thirty origin stones.

After finishing checking up on all the resources stored here, Mangrel climbed back to the surface, to the dusty room. He hid the passage just in case.

Reaching the room, which was filled with the stench of blood, Mangrel found the two corpses to have already been moved. Only bloodstains were visible all around the place.

Walking out of the house, Mangrel saw Mars pulling a body with its neck slit. It was the man they killed in the street, before heading towards Jwarlen's house.

Such an unrestrained movement was possible in this area because it was extremely poverty-stricken. And no guards walked through this street, or something resembling it, intentionally or unintentionally.

"Did anyone see you?" Mangrel questioned cautiously.

"No. The street was quite like everyone was dead." Mars answered honestly.

"Let me help you." Wanting to fasten the disposal, Mangrel lends a hand to carry the corpse too.

Both of them dragged the corpse to the back of the house, where another four corpses lay. It was the two guards, Jwarlen and Herlky.

Putting the man upon the four stacked-up corpses.

"Good work." Mangrel praised Mars, seeing the bodies stacked upon each other perfectly.

Heading back in, Mangrel brought back two lamps with him. Without any hesitation, he smacked both of them upon the corpses once at a time.

Shatter! Shatter! Burn!

Flames rose rapidly, enveloping all the bodies in it.

"Phew, it's over at last." Mars breathed out and relaxed.

It was the first time he had ever carried out such a raid. His life was on the line, however, it was nothing new to him anyway.

Starving to death, stabbed to death, burnt to death, the result would always be the same.

Overcoming the fear of death was never easy.

Giving up one's life for some ideals or for others and being unafraid of death was different.

Mangrel subtly looked at Mars, 'Being unafraid of death without any reliance on sudden emotions or superficial relationships. Mars has nearly achieved this, he has developed a good personality for demonic cultivation.'
