A sigh escaped Meg's lips as she elegantly lifted up her cup of cappuccino and took a sip. Her cherry red lipstick left a stain on the poor white coffe cup. Meanwhile, her brother was tapping his fingers impatiently on the table.
"First of all, don't call me selfish." Meg put down her cup, and her piercing blue eye met her brother's once more.
So, whatever's gonna come out of her mouth won't be pleasant to hear or deal with. Still, Liam nodded.
"I want to marry Star."
"Everyone knows that." The platinum blond alpha kept eye contact.
"Shut up, you little shit, I'm not done yet." His sister rolled her eyes, and the familiar way she called him made him relaxed just a tiny bit.
Liam leaned his head on his hand after his elbow landed on the table. He looked at his sister with obvious pretence sincerity, just to piss her off. "Go on."
Ocean blue eyes glared black at him, which only showed that the platinum blond alpha was successful in his quest to annoy her. Even though the two siblings are hostile to each other most of the time they're within twenty feet of each other, Liam still loves his sister, and Meg still loves him. No matter how much they go out of their way to screw each other over little things, at the end of the day, they're still siblings, ones of the same blood, and they will stick with each other if the situation calls for it.
"Mom..." Meg let out another sigh as she closed her eyes. "Told me about you and Mar. I... I thought what I saw in the car was just you two joining hands to mess with me or something."
Her brother's face paled, but he still kept his composure. Liam blinked a few times, and he knew he couldn't deny or gaslight his way out of this one. Before he could think of anything to say, his sister opened her eyes, and she slowly lifted her head up from her cup of coffee to face him.
"Don't blame mom for any of this." Her voice was stern, but the expression on her face was rather soft. "She only wanted me to be careful. I won't go around yelling at the top of my lungs either."
"Get to the point, Meg." The platinum blond alpha let out a deep breath that he didn't even notice he was holding.
Blue eyes softened a little more, and Liam found himself leaning closer towards his sister. None of them gave out pheromones nor scent, but he could sense the nervousness combined with sadness radiating from his older sister.
"I want to marry Star. She's the love of my life." The alpha female mumbled, and her fingers tapped on the table while her other hand played with the handle of her coffee cup. "Please don't ruin it for me. You can have Mar all you want, but please don't pull some shit that will fuck up my chances with Star. I love her, and I'm real sure she loves me, but... But you know what her father can do, so please."
It's only natural for a person to protect their loved ones, and Liam couldn't do anything but nod. He didn't know what to say in this situation. Should he apologize or should he tell her that he thinks their family is too important for Mr. Aster to drop them? Kr should he reassure her that nothing bad's gonna happen when he isn't even sure himself?
His sister saved him the trouble by continuing to talk after she took another sip from her cup.
"Star doesn't know about you and Mar, and I'm glad." The alpha female met his glaze once more. "If you plan to do anything like Rex and Blue, please don't until me and Star are married."
This time, he could smell the signature sweet yet earthly scent of cypress coming from his sibling, and her pheromones wasn't aggressive. Instead, it's laced with worry. It still wasn't enough for Liam to stay quiet.
"The Devins are still welcomed here even though Blue left." The platinum blond alpha began releasing his scent and pheromones, just enough to let his sister know that he's responding. "Besides, we aren't doing anything stupid, Meg. Mar's found something he wanna do in school, and he won't stop me from walking the path mom and dad set me us."
The alpha male paused a bit, and his eyes moved away from his sister to take in the sight of the statues in the garden. His scent got a tiny bit stronger, and his pheromones began matching his sister's.
"Honestly, we have nothing planned except trying to keep our thing under wraps." Liam admitted, and his blue eyes moved from the statues to the sky.
There's a million things running through his mind, from figuring how to keep his sister from babbling to other people to screaming at himself for admitting that him and his companion doesn't have a plan beyond the forbidden lap top. Fortunately, the forbidden laptop wasn't mentioned.
"And staying in school?" Meg's voice pulled hik back to look at her. "You two are staying in school right?"
Something at the back of his head told him that his older sister already knew about the twins' plan to leave the family, so this is why she's asking if the alpha male and his best friend continue their education. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that the twins told Star, and of course, the omega female went on to tell her lover.
"Yep." Liam tried to give his sister a smile, and he lifted up his hand to give her a thumbs up. "Stay in school. Don't do drugs. We're following the rules."
The corner of the alpha female's lips slowly pulled into a smile, and eventually, she let out a laugh.
"You little shit." Meg's lips turned into a rather sad grin. "Promise me that you won't ruin me and Star's wedding, and promise me that your dumbass won't dig yourself into a hole. Take care of yourself, and take care of him."
He couldn't resist putting his elbow on the table once more, but this time he had his pinky finger out. Liam was well aware that their situation is serious, but he couldn't help but bring back childhood memories.
From across the table, his sister followed suit and pulled up her pinky finger. With their pinky finger hooked together and their pheromones matching in worry and hope, the siblings began giggling. Their shoulders were shaking, and none of them were making eye contact.
The siblings were so lost in their own little world that they didn't notice someone coming to the gazebo. Sapphire blue eyes landed on the two alphas, and the third alpha let out a deep breath. The small sound finally caught Liam's attention, so he turned around to look at the man standing at the entrance of the gazebo.
In one hand he was holding a large cup of steaming latte, and in his other hand held a single piece of croissant, the same one that Meg was having. What got the platinum blond alpha's attention is the backpack hanging from the man's bare shoulders since he's only dressed in a pair of pastel green sweat pants.
"You know what, I won't even ask what's so funny." Sieg took a step back and turned around sheepishly. "I'll find another spot to work."
It's kind of sad to watch the older alpha walking away, bare feet on the stone the path underneath the early morning sun.
"Sieg, my friend, come back! Sorry for taking your spot." Meg called out to the third Aster child, and she promptly stood up from her seat. "I forgot you like to hang out here."
The scientist turned around rather dramatically; his messy brunette hair blew lightly in the wind as he looked at them. "It's alright, Meg. I don't want to interrupt your time with your brother."
"Nah, you aren't interrupting anything. We're just being silly." Liam got up from his seat and dusted his shirt. His smile came rather naturally on his face as he looked at the brunette alpha. "I'm gonna go bother the kitchen for some food 'cause my amazing beloved sister here didn't get me any croissants."
On cue, the alpha female handed him her plate where there's one croissant remaining. "Here. Don't ever complain about me not giving you food ever again."
Blue eyes immediately glared at his sister, but he still kept his smile. Oh, now he's gonna take the plate to the kitchen. Fucking sly bitch.
