Luna's eyes were still predominantly obsidian black. But now instead of a solid black colour, there were now fine lines running through each eye. Although they weren't visible, the cracks glowed with an unearthly power.
Gazing at Emmia, Luna could finally see the anomaly.
'What the hell...' Luna felt a chill travel down her spine as she saw the eerie protrusion from Emmia's head.
Ethereal green threads emerged from Emmia's head and spread out to each part of the body. The threads were thick, almost like small wines which pulsed and convulsed with universal energy transmissions. The feeling that it gave out was sickly and unnatural which repulsed Luna just by looking at it.
Luna's white face became paler than usual at the sight, which finally prompted Seril to take action.
"Luna, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Seril spoke out when she Luna bleaching to an extent that she thought wasn't possible.
Luna flinched at the sudden intrusion and her concentration faltered.
The pulsing wines vanished from her sight, as sweat dripped from her head.
'It's tough...' Luna thought feeling dizzy. Just viewing the anomaly took so much out of her that Luna felt the urge to sit down.
"...It's no-" Luna started to say to Seril when she stopped.
'Wait, I've already identified the problem...I guess I should tell Seril then...'
"...I mean...I figured out why...Emmia is still in a coma," Luna told Seril slowly.
"What?" Seril said sharply. Her crimson-red eyes glowed involuntarily as she locked Luna with just her gaze.
"Are you telling the truth?" Seril asked after a pause, still channeling universal energy to sense any disturbances around Luna.
"...yes," Luna replied without turning away from Seril's piercing eyes.
"Explain," Seril demanded, still keeping her ability active.
"...I can see the restriction placed on Emmia now.....It's centered in her head and is the cause of her coma," Luna answered. "...I know that my gift is just "Enchain" but I think I was limiting myself before," Luna continued to explain. "...so now I can just see the restriction? I can't really explain it..." Luna rambled on trying to convince Seril.
"Alright, I believe you," Seril cut Luna off, having seen enough to judge for herself. Luna sighed, not in relief, but in exertion.
'It's really hard to talk for long amounts of time...'
"So how are we going to get rid of the restriction?" Seril asked once more, impatience tinging her voice.
"....Aren't you going to tell the doctors first?" Luna asked slightly surprised.
"Well if they haven't found anything, then I don't think they have the ability to do anything even with your information," Seril concluded in a cold voice.
'Is she....angry? No...I think it's more of disgust...' Luna thought to herself as she observed Seril.
"....I think I have a solution..." Luna proposed after a thought.
Seril stayed silent, urging Luna to continue by herself.
"I don't think I can completely seal the restriction placed on Emmia....." Luna started out which elicited an angry glare from Seril.
"....but I should be able to make it visible for someone else to see it for a second or so." Luna ended and stared at Seril not minding her anger.
"So you'll reveal its location and someone else has to get rid of it?" Seril asked for confirmation.
Luna just nodded in affirmation, too tired to talk more than required.
"Hmm, is that thing organic in nature?" Seril asked after a thought.
Luna tilted her head in confusion.
"I mean, does it seem living?" Seril rephrased herself.
"..I think so yes," Luna gave her thoughts on the matter after recalling the green pulsing vines.
"Good," Seril gave an icy smile, anger raging behind her eyes.
"Reveal that thing, I'll take care of it," Seril told Luna as she stood up next to her.
Luna gave Seril a look but didn't question her. Luna knew Seril wouldn't risk Emmia's life like that, so she could rest assured.
"...I'll start now....just make sure Emmia is safe," Luna added the last part on for reasons unknown to even her.
Giving Luna a side glance, Seril just nodded and focussed on Emmia.
Exhaling, Luna then inhaled and activated her gift.
Opening her eyes, the fine lines in the obsidian glowed with power.
Suddenly Luna could see the abnormality on Emmia's body.
Observing it for a second, a thought struck Luna as she looked at it.
'It looks like a parasite.....'
Then shaking the extra thoughts from her head, Luna focused on the base of the parasite-like creature.
Channeling universal energy into her gift, Luna activated the primary ability of her gift.
'Enchain!' Luna cried out in her head.
Gray chains slithered out of the ground and snaked their way to Emmia's forehead. Circling the outgrowth, the chains suddenly plunged inside Emmia's head to the source of the problem.
There inside Emmia's head was a small imperceptible mass of cells that pulsed with that same eerie energy that those vines did.
Locating their target, the chains clasped the small mass and started to seal it away.
Luna felt the power draining away from her like a waterfall. But unlike a waterfall, Luna's energy source was very limited.
Only half a second had passed, yet it felt like an eternity for Luna as she felt her energy bottoming out any moment now.
'So strong...' Luna gritted her teeth, yet she persisted. Suddenly all her energy disappeared, having been used up in the process of locking the parasite.
Luna's eyes fluttered as she started to lose consciousness.
'....no...NO....' Luna bit her tongue and reached deep inside her and drew on any power she could find. Her life force started to flow out to fuel the activation of her gift.
'not enough....' Luna concluded in that very moment as she turned ashen in another second. Locking up that parasite was proving insurmountable at this point to Luna. Even her life force wasn't enough to seal that parasite even for just a second so that Seril could take care of it.
'more...I need more....' Luna thought desperately as she searched for such power inside her.
Finally, as if sensing her desperation, a whisper echoed in Luna's head.
'Do you desire power?'
'...' Luna didn't respond, continuing to use her life force.
'Just release us.'
'You know we have to power.'
'Let us free.'
'We can help you.'
The whispers that always tempted Luna with bloodlust and rage had changed their tone this time.
'They are desperate to get out...' Luna thought, recognizing their desire to be free and cause devastation.
'But....' Luna shifted her eyes to Emmia's face as she felt her life ebbing into her gift.
Gritting her teeth, Luna shouted in her head.
'FINE, GIVE ME YOUR POWER THEN'
Getting excited the whispers exploded into a frenzy.
Luna then loosened the restrictions placed on these unknown voices and a surge of power exploded through her.
The power was so strong that Luna felt her nose bleed from the inflow. Yet this sensation of fullness lasted only for a second. In the same instant, all the excess power flowed right into her gift, replacing the life force that was fueling the sealing process.
In just a second, the seal was done, flimsy yet it served its purpose.
Seril could finally see the location and cause of her sister's coma.
'Die,' Seril thought coldly as she expended every bit of power and activated her gift.
The seal on the parasite broke down at the same time and the parasite tried to fade away from Seril's sight the next instant.
'You can't escape.'
Like a predator, Seril's gift pounced on the parasite and sank its teeth into it.
Struggling fiercely, the parasite tried to fight the power. But in the end, it was a parasite, it wasn't meant to fight things directly.
So it decided to self-destruct, taking Emmia down with it.
As if Seril had sensed its intentions long back, Seril had already used her power to isolate the parasite from its connections to Emmia's body.
Panicking, the parasite tried to spilt away and escape. Yet it was all in vain. In the end, Seril's power ripped the parasite to shreds, killing it and giving a blow to its master as well at the same time.
