Chapter 2 - The Twins - Part 2

The two kids stopped struggling in shock.

"Y-you wouldn't eat us, r-ight? People don't eat other p-people." The girl stuttered slightly as the boy nodded his agreement vigorously.

"Would I?" The old man grinned showing his pearly white teeth which were in far too good of a condition for his age.

The two trembled and frantically tried to think of a way to escape the lunatic that had caught them.

"I don't think we t-taste good at all," remarked the girl.

"Yea, it's best you f-find someone else." The boy chimed in.

"I don't mind, I haven't had a meal in a very long time you see," the man's grin just widened scaring the children even further.

"I-I mean w-we don't h-have any meat on us a-at a-all," the boy rushed.

"Ye-yea we're o-only a-a p-pile of bones a-at this p-point," The girl added.

"Aren't the bones the tastiest parts?" The man questions licking his lips slightly. At this point the twins went into a full-blown panic, fully regretting the fact that they tried to jump this crazy old monster.

"B-b-but," the kids tried to formulate an argument, but ultimately ended up stuttering and tearing up slightly.

"All right, all right, I won't eat you now." The man relented, chucking slightly.

"R-really?" Cried the twins in relief.

"So y-you'll let us go?" Asked the boy hopefully.

"Hmm I could, but it seems I bought too many drinks by accident from that store earlier. Since it's bad to waste food, I think you too would be a great help in finishing them off." The man lied smoothly with a straight face.

The twins finally went into shock at this point. First, this old man captures them, threatens to eat them, and now wants to feed them? They didn't know what to think anymore.

While the twins were contemplating their lives, the man stretched out a leg and grabbed the bag lying a short distance away. Skillfully dragging the bag over he moved it in front of him.

"All right go ahead and grab a drink," the man said. The kids snapped back to attention, their gazes were drawn to the enticing bag filled with delicious drinks. An audible gulp was heard as the twins glanced at each other in doubt.

"If you don't start drinking I might reconsider what my evening meal is going to be," the man urged.

No matter how suspicious the twins were of the old man, and no matter how badly they wanted to refuse the drinks, they just couldn't go against their stomachs which hadn't had food in a few days. Finally, they relented and grabbed a cup out of the bag.

"Hey old man, I don't think we can drink like this," said the twins clutching the cups in both hands.

"Oh, right," the man acknowledged and finally shifted the twins from his dog hold to his lap. Wrapping one arm loosely around the kids, he opened the bag widely and started arranging the drinks upright.

Once the twins were comfortable they started to drink rapidly, taking huge gulps like dehydrated men.

"Drink slowly or you'll choke," the man admonished slightly, leaning back against the wall.

The kids gave no reply as they continued to drink as quickly as before. The man just sighed softly and made himself comfortable for the time being.

15 minutes later and with 8 cups of juice down, the twins finally had their fill. The twins hadn't felt this full in, well never actually. With their stomachs full and the slight warmth emanating from the old man, they had unconsciously leaned back into his body. With the sky slowly turning red as the sun set, the twins started to feel drowsy.

"What're you going to do with us?" Asked the boy softly.

"Nothing, just sleep" the man replied soothingly.

"Mmm, I don't care if you eat us now," mumbled the girl.

"Again, I'm not going to eat you," the man chuckled softly.

"Really?" The girl asked giving a small smile.

"Really."

"Hehe, you're a weird old man." The girl giggled.

"I get that a lot," the man laughed softly.

The wind slightly picked up, giving a gentle breeze to the sleepy kids. The man started to hum softly, an old song from his childhood. Listening to the odd tune, the twins finally started to fall asleep, shifting their bodies to capture as much warmth from the weird yet kind old man.
