"YOU'RE MAD!!" Macy shouted in protest, "You sat there!? For days!?"
Veronica didn't answer, simply walking into the altar as though unperturbed by the mystery behind its meaning, the horror, it was so unprecedented that Macy visibly retracted a step.
"This is too far!!"
"You already agreed on coming and I'm not turning back now"
Macy made an incredulous look of irritation, "That was before I'd seen where you'd been spending the past few nights"
"I didn't divine the nature's of the letter, I'm not an idiot"
"Even so!" But before Macy could make her point across did Veronica interject as she began to seat herself as she had done the first time she'd come here.
"Divination only shows what I'd intended to divine, anything unrelated to the divination won't appear" she brought her wand in front of her which had flickered into her hand just moments ago and placed it on top of her lap, "You already know this"
"And you know that there aren't any absolutes!!" Macy hissed but already knew how futile her resistance was, Veronica had already made it clear that all other options had been nullified.
"So how's this going to work exactly…" Macy mumbled, just barely audible with the irritation and anger laced in her voice.
"Simple, while I was in a state of divination, I had a few officers protecting me which I don't exactly have right now because we're not supposed to be here" She glanced up at Macy, "Just make sure that nothing happens while I'm incapable of protecting myself"
"Che, that's simple but that's not enough" Macy bore holes through her glare, "If I sense anything out of order in you, I can and I will pull you out at any moment"
"Isn't that only right?"
"What I mean is, that it doesn't matter where and how close you get to finding something out" she turned around and waved dismissively, "I'll halt the process and we leave, there'll be no protests either"
Veronica smiled and shook her head helplessly as she stared down the symbol below her feet, V for a creature's name? V for a language of which she couldn't understand? V…for Veronica? Terrifying, terrifying thoughts, she shook her head and forced herself not to ponder on the symbol anymore, hesitant that simply gazing for far too long might or might have already incurred the eyes of someone or something.
Her head lowered as she sat herself cross legged, grasping her wand and dragging its tip around the surface surrounding her as words spilled from her lips in Dragonese. Soon enough and Veronica was surrounded by a golden circle of light, engulfing her as a feeling of drowsiness and exhaustion creeped up on her.
'Only a glimpse, only glimpse' She recited in her mind.
Macy stood a good distance away from Veronica, not too far away that she couldn't react to any sudden change in her body, physical or mental but far away enough that her own lingering fears weren't heightened by being so close. Although a Witch of the fifth circle, a mid tier by the general consensus of magicking opinion, being that there were a known ten tiers but even then did Macy still find the world of magic itself as terrifying and unnerving as when she'd first entered.
Standing in what was an alter of mangled corpses to disfigured morbid symboling and her fear of this world couldn't be any more revitalized, she took hesitant glances around the area and narrowed her eyes at the scenery.
'Disgusting…'
Divination was a process requiring either the specific items or corresponding belongings of those targeted towards a divination, of course however, divination wasn't limited to only people, places and objects were included. Places however, were a dangerous gamble, Veronica had known this quite well and even more so from a glance of the crime scene. Performing a divination once was already more than enough danger that a person could or even wanted to endure, it meant coming into contact with someone or something's Fate, such things could be hidden from the target's knowledge although the chances were slim but a second time?
Veronica had already graced glances with a Dragon, most notably out of its benevolence was she still seated here, living and breathing; still human. The brief moments before the images surfaced and one was completely engulfed by the dream world's were silent and unnerving, it felt like lingering between two States of existence, where her body lay…and where the unthinkable resided. It was a little terrifying but one had to trudge through it, soon did Veronica open her eyes again.
'Just a glimpse'
'Just a glimpse'
'Just a glimpse'
Those words reverberated in her mind as a warning, continuously warning her of the dangers as she nodded to herself and…watched the world burn.
Macy slowly kicked a stray rock out of boredom and sighed while pacing over the area she'd been standing on for the past ten minutes, divinations were a long process. Macy had remembered that usually they took up to a few hours to settle or even days, Veronica hadn't been to the apartment they'd rented for days on end due to the divination on the lower district coverup.
Figuring this out and Macy let out a low and annoyed sigh of resignation, kicking another rock and watching it fly through the air and smack into a wall of rubble with a huff. There was utter silence across the ruined residential area where the slaughter had occurred, on occasion did Macy feel as though there were lingering gazes following her every step and move.
'This isn't right…' Macy thought and glanced at Veronica whose expression had neither changed nor shown any signs of plight.
'This is why I hate these places…'
The divination was different this time! Veronica looked around, a city still burning and corpses laid over the landscape that spanned on till wherever but there was a change. The people of which Veronica had vividly remembered singing and dancing in what was unsettlingly Dragonese were quiet now, they weren't dancing either and they had their body's knelt down in prayer, head's pressed to the ground as whisper's could be heard.
"His Son"
"His Son"
She was a little bewildered this time, they were speaking in normal language and Veronica could understand what was being said quite easily. "His Son", the chant continued in those whispers only as Veronica's gaze grew complicated and concerned. Who was this son they spoke of? She couldn't denote it to the Dragon of Death, religious texts and their own reverence explained Dragons as the first beings, the first God's with no equal. Perhaps some Dragons had appeared earlier or later than others but none had any familial relationship nor a sense of hierarchical structure. So who was this son? Yet Veronica knew well than to tread through such waters, it wasn't in her place to know and she'd come here for entirely different matters and wouldn't allow herself to fall victim into matters outside her control.
At this point was there a low rumble, an earth shaking, guttural growling of a beast far into the distance of corpses across the landscape. Veronica's head rang and her eyes began to burn, terror rooting her where she was but she quickly recovered to take a look in direction of where she thought the woman may be coming from. Yet there was no one there, the wings were unfolding and showing themselves proudly as Veronica could feel her mind filling with an indescribable sense of pain as she clutched it tightly, had she treaded too far?
She roughly contemplated ending the divination now but still felt she wanted to see the woman, just at least her face, a glimpse was all she needed but the pain was becoming unbearable. The people who'd been kneeling and in prayer then suddenly stood, their gazes of milky and unfocused nature quickly struck on her as she stepped back.
'Alright, this is bad' She noted in her mind, deciding it probably best to end things now regardless.
She started saying a few words under her breath, chanting profusely as the people stared at her without much of a desire to stop her, she kept going and going while her mind pained more and more. The task became arduous but just as she'd reached the last few lines did Veronica feel something grace her shoulders and grab at her.
"Going so soon?"
