Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Dual wielding

Dual wielding was unheard of, no magic was replicant of a another nor similar in such a way that it could be used simultaneously to compensate for a lack of anothers capabilities or to put in what this was referring to; no wand was the same nor could they compensate for another. A wand was a Wizard or Witches tool, an extra limb that not only stood as their weapon of destruction, chaos or heroism but the most basic and simplified condensation of their deepest desires and nature.

The wand of a dark Wizard was filled with malice, anger, deep seeded hatred that spiralled around the mass that was Violence. It's why a Wizard or Witch's spell's may have a difference in colour for the nature and desires for the spells effect differ as well.

To dual wield was not only useless when one put this into effect but severely detrimental, take for example if a Wizard of good heart and nature were to handle the wand of a dark Wizard? A weapon so enthralled by the act of murder, strengthened by bloodshed and maddened through time would act as chains to someone who'd rather not kill and feed on the sorrow of others.

The same would go vice versa if a dark Wizard were to use the wand of a light Wizard as well, although darkness and light weren't so easily distinguished like that, one should get the gist here. In other words, it was best to wield a wand of your specific nature, something you're in tune with, something that felt a part of you or you felt as though it'd accomplish a deep rooted desire within in your heart.

More often than not, people only had one of either reasons.

Lindel was quite surprised and taken aback, no one in the entirety of her lifetime had chosen two wands over one; was that even allowed? No, no it was because a law had never been instated that it wasn't, people just called you foolish. She stared at the dark haired child in front of her, spectacled and enthralled by the two wands ahead; how foolish was she?

"E-Erm, Young Lady Ludmilla, it is mostly advised that you take one" She said, trying to convince the child otherwise.

"I see…, is that a command or an option?" Lindel's eye's widened to this question.

"A wand is the representation of your most deepest desires and nature, your effective use in a wand is driven by this connection"

This was basic magicking knowledge, every person knew this. Lindel stared at the child who's expression became complicated and contemptuous as she sighed: 'Noble children, their greed surely knows no bounds'.

"I feel like they both fit that description though"

'Huh!?'

Lindel stared at the child, her mouth open agape. That wasn't possible, a person's truest and most deepest nature could only be described by a singular conceptual idea as the most simplest and truest form of an object no matter how complex was singular in nature. One couldn't have two nature's, that was impossible. Lindel nearly felt a boiling and itching irritation in her heart desire to admonish the child, perhaps she wasn't good enough, that was common.

To not be able to carefully analyse and tear one's own layers upon layers apart to the very integral and simplest format of what made who they were was a skill that every Witch and Wizard had, one had to know who they were, what they were and what they desired most…lest they go mad in the world of Witchcraft and wizadry.

"That one there, it's my desire for adventure" Said the child, pointing at the metallic wand of silver color, "it's loyal and trustworthy, perhaps a little loving but mostly a thrill seeker" she explained and then pointed at another wand.

"That one…ahem, it represents my desire to prove myself" the child's eyes narrowed, "My desire for power…"

Lindel stared, she was at a loss for words here. Truth be told those were natures and desires, one's that could've easily been reason enough to take upon either wand but the child had spoken of both having been hers. She scrutinized and frowned, Ludmilla's gaze wasn't confusion or doubt, this what she truly believed and it seemed as though she'd taken some deal of analysis into this.

"You're both adventurous and hungry for power?" She asked as Ludmilla smiled.

"I'm a bit greedy, yes"

'How terrifying…'

There wasn't a hint of childish naivety when she said those words, not something the least bit a child should be able to express. Lindel knew of course that she was fifteen and perhaps a few of those qualities should be present at such a stage but to this extent was abnormal to the point that even though for a split fraction of a second, Lindel felt as though she was staring into the eyes of an adult at least thrice the age of the child in front of her now. It was truly terrifying, while some would've felt pride, a child of this level of maturity was far too abnormal, it wasn't right.

'The Ludunhime family sure nurturs monsters' she sighed inwardly.

"There's no law stating that it cannot be done" she began after her short pause of deep thought, "however, I feel that I must make something clear about a wand"

There were gazes where one could feel that any explanations, short lived or endlessly detailed upon wouldn't shake the tough towers of the will already burning in the other party's hearts. Call it stubbornness and perhaps it was but there were those who's decisions were set in stone and once that was done, all other forms of opposition were futile. Yet Lindel, as a Representative Witch responsible for the inauguration of Young Witches and Wizards felt it upon her duties to make crucial facts known to the importance of any factors leading to a Wizard or Witch's future.

"A wand although a tool is a being itself, as simplistic and basic as they may be, lacking conscious thought or independent movement" she explained, her own wand suddenly appearing in her hand, "Are your limbs, your heart, your every breath, your thoughts, your desires"

'A wand is a being itself'

"They are enactors of your will but also beings that will guide you"

'For that being…'

"A wand although a tool, represents the part of you most integral to who you are" At some point the wand had been pointed and pressed against Ludmilla's chest, "For a Wand, although a tool…"

'Is You'

She stared at Ludmilla, her gaze not as piercing as before, not as though she desired to piece away every layer of falsity littered across the masks that were noble's through her choice for a wand but the gaze of someone staring into a pit of lies and forcefully desiring to grab at the truth; her gaze demanded that she look at herself one last time.

"Who are you, Ludmilla?"

**

It was a sunny and cloudless morning, Crusch awoke that day feeling both excited and a little sullen, the events of the night before still somewhat ringing in her mind.

'Who are you, Ludmilla?'

She frowned whenever the thought so much as flashed past her mind, tarnishing her mood more often than not, she was Crusch, simple as that but of course that wasn't an answer she could denote at the time nor ever. Yet Crusch somewhat felt that even then, who was Crusch and what was the most integral part of her being, a singular concept that explained her as a whole was something she couldn't even answer herself.

'Argh!! those are philosophical questions! Since when was I so self analytical?'

She admonished, shaking her head in an attempt to drown the unwanted thoughts or shove them in the deepest recesses of her mind where she'd never go looking for them. There were more important matters to discuss, things she'd rather focus on now than some questions over who she was or what she was for beside her, seated like two little angels…ahem…well, not really, one felt like the devil and the other was a carefree child were the two wands she'd insisted on having that same night.

She lightly sighed, a smile creasing her face in slight amusement, "Dual wielding huh?"

Dual wielding was a process Crusch had later been told as to what her choice had entailed, a kind of wand wielding where a Wizard or Witch carried two wands of similar nature but different attributes to compensate for another wand's short comings. If Crusch were to try and understand this at a simpler and more straight forward level, then, it was sort of like holding two different weapons all purposed around one task; killing, yet, while the other could only pierce, stab and operate at a closer distance, the second option had more leeway.

Crusch's Dual wielding aspect's were different however, for as stated before the usual Dual wielding weapons were similar in nature. A similarity in nature meant that a Wizard or Witch could use the wand with as much fever and vigour as their last, a wand was your limb, an extension of yourself thus a similarity was needed to use it.

One can't use the limbs of a being that wasn't them after all.

Crusch's wands however had nearly zero similarities, one spelt of evil, malevolence and greedy desire. It was a strong and powerful emotion that felt almost alien to her yet resonated quite well, Wrath. While the other, an adventurous, free spirited soul desiring nothing more than the excitements of living was quite the stark contrast. There was no similarities, nothing of the sort that'd make wielding both at the same time anything easy to speak of but Crusch wasn't deterred.

"Also…how the hell does one dual wield wand's?"

"Lady Ludmilla, are you awake in there?" Melissa cautiously asked from behind her door, the anxiety in her voice pretty obvious.

"Yeah, you can come inside"

There was the sound of a small click, the door slowly and hesitantly coming open as Melissa stepped inside. To call her anxious though was quite the understatement, she was disheveled, her hair in a mess with bags for eyes and an expression that just spoke of worry. It seemed as though she was still brooding over the reasoning for Crusch's choice, dual wielding after all had long since been a custom forgotten and frowned upon. Many wizards and Witches of the past who had dabbled in its effects and slight benefits weren't all that noteworthy either, they were simply known as examples for why one should NEVER use more than one wand so why exactly did her master do such a thing was something beyond her countless years of analytical skill and proud capabilities to come to a conclusive and rationally intelligent answer. So her next words were hesitant.

"...Ludy, is there a reason why you chose to dual wield?" Melissa asked to which Ludmilla only slightly glanced back at her while coming out of bed, analysing her maids appearance.

"Did you gain any sleep last night…you look a little…erm—"

"Ludy, please don't avert the subject!!"

Crusch paused and glanced at her, her expression neither perturbed nor overly interested over Melissa's concern.

"There's no need to worry, I'm sure I made the right choice"

"Are you? Dual wielding isn't just dangerous, it's utterly foolish!" Melissa shouted, her blood boiling at this point. This wasn't the Ludmilla she knew, the Ludmilla who although many admonished as a failure of an offspring to the family, an inept at social interaction was both intelligible and hard working at what she could do. The Ludmilla she'd known, although Melissa may have never known what she was going through a few days prior was surely someone who could properly and perhaps much better than most, analyse and look into themselves for who they were.

"Dangerous?" Ludmilla's gaze suddenly narrowed in concern, finally she was listening to reason were Melissa's thoughts.

"Yes, you should've known this!" Melissa admonished, "In order to Dual wield one has to meld their two wands together!"

At the mention of this Crusch's eyes slightly widened in shock.

'Holy shit, they can do that!?'

"Meld…? Like…make them into one…?"

Melissa who heard this stared at her as though listening to the ravings of some madman, as though the words that came from Crusch's mouth didn't even deserve the privilege of an explanation while her expressions changed from anxiety and worry to full blown outrage.

"Of course they have to!! Young Lady Ludmilla, no Wizard or Witch goes around waving two wands around like some idiot!!"

'Idiot!? How was I supposed to know you could do that!?'

"It's preposterous!!! To use two wands at the same time means to meld them into one entity, gaining the capabilities and resonance of both for whatever reason you may have!!" Melissa continued.

Dual wielding had been abandoned for the main reason surrounding this flaw, actually succeeding in melding two wands into one singular entity!!

"No one has ever succeeded in it!!" Melissa was now pacing across the room, "little Ludy, there are some serious benefits to dual wielding that have been thought up and theorized by many and although they may sound amazing, I must inform you that no one has ever succeeded in melding two wands together"

Then how was it that that there were known dual wielders in the past?

"There's a reason why Dual wielders of old were either low class Witches and Wizards or forgotten worms, they were defectives!!" Melissa, then, in her fit of annoyance and outrage suddenly swung to meet Crusch's eyes, "Their wand's broke"

Melding two different wands although of somewhat similar nature sounded like a simple task, the two were essentially the same so the process shouldn't yield anything like rejection..right? Wrong, similarity didn't mean compatibility. Wand's were made of different materials catered in most cases than not for specific attribute types, one's similar nature to a wand also meant that they were more attuned to said attribute however while the consensus might be that to hold a similar nature to two kinds of wands meant that you had an attunement to both attributes, that didn't mean that those said attributes were meant to or could be used in tandem.

To put this into perspective, think of fire and water. In actuality it wasn't all that rare for a Wizard or Witch to hold more than one attunement to any attributes however more time's than not, those attributes didn't suit each other to be used together or in this case, melded together in such a manner that a Wizard or Witch could gain more expertise in both attributes at the same time. Water doesn't work well with fire, attempting to meld the two together only has two conclusions, either the water which the wizard or Witch holds an attunement to is stronger and ends up dowsing the flames or both have an equal amount of attunement strength and end up rejecting and destroying each other. Such scenarios were common and very much prevalent when melding two wands into one.

"It's a game of unlucky chance, if your wands don't mix with each other then they'll break and the melding process ends up producing a hollow and incomplete structure of both your wands combined" Melissa made an exaggerated gesture of this process by snapping at air, "It becomes a defective wand where no matter what you do, how much concentration you place in your spells the end result is always a warped and weak mimickry of what you'd intended"

The end result of a rejection in any melding process was a broken weapon or item, a hollow shell of what it was supposed to be. For a wand, this was worse than just having a broken item. As stated, a wand was a Wizard or Witch's breath and soul, there were no replacements for those kinds of stuff; zero!!

This meant that there was no rerun, the process was as dangerous and daring as fighting with your life on the line where losing meant death. In this case, if one's wand broke then so did their future as an aspiring Wizard or Witch.

Such a loss was as serious as death…

"Young Lady Ludmilla, if such a thing befalls you…" Melissa's gaze grew complicated and contemptuous at this point as a grimace slowly made itself known, "Please, reconsider your choices and choose a wand that fits you well…"

Crusch stared.

Truth be told now the serious implications and possible consequences of her choices were laying themselves deep under her skin, she most definitely didn't want a defective wand. Magic was her life blood, she was enthralled by the concept and most certainly addicted. It wasn't something she planned to simply dilly daddle and lightly dip her toes into, she wanted to delve deep into this worlds machinations, she wanted to know everything and anything there was about magic; she wanted it all.

'Huh…thinking about it that way, I guess that evil stick isn't that far away from me…'

But, that was something she could only do if she had the capabilities to do so and a defective wand wouldn't grant those capabilities, so, there was a tinge of fear in her heart and there was a lot of anxiousness creeping and looming over her like a big shadow yet her words were as calm and collected as they had been since the start of this conversation. Call her mad, stubborn or delusional but a small part of her was quite liking this feeling.

Daring to do the seemingly impossible

"I'll be fine"
