"Let's order and not keep our guest waiting," Charlie said.
"Can we have four menus please," he said as he lifted his hand to call for a waiter.
The orc hurriedly brought over four hard cover booklets as the leather binding was shimmering under the different lights; he placed a menu in front of each of us before bowing and leaving. The service was truly impeccable.
"Please Jett, choose anything your heart desires, it's on me."
I was touched by his kindness but still kept my guard up but I still nudged and grinned. Adriana and Martin seemed to like to fool around a lot but even though Charlie smiled frequently, I could discern that there was a more serious side to him.
I looked down to choose what I wanted to eat but to my surprise, the writing was like a puzzle, I couldn't understand what any of the items meant. A short while later, the same waiter approached our table once again but this time had a pen and paper in hand.
"May I take your order?" he asked.
The three orcs began ordering but I had still not found a dish that I was familiar with. After combing through all of the words, I came across the word pork.
"I'll have the pork dish please," I said while pointing at the menu.
"You must have a great appetite," the orc said before bowing and leaving once again.
"Why did he say that?" I asked the others.
Charlie laughed while Adriana and Martin chuckled.
"What's funny?" I asked to clear the confusion.
"You my friend just ordered a whole roasted pig," Martin replied.
"I hope that you haven't eaten today," he added.
"Don't worry, everyone makes that mistake when they first come here," Adriana said.
I joined them and began laughing; afterwards, we engaged in small talks but I could feel that Charlie was trying to bring something up.
"Is there something you want talk about?" I asked.
"It's seems like I've been read," Charlie said.
"To tell you the truth, I've brought you guys here to ask for a favor. Rumors have been spreading around lately that the mountain we'll be visiting, hosts an inheritance," he added.
The jaws of the other two orcs were wide open and their eyes were bulging out.
"What's an inheritance?" I asked.
"Do you seriously not know what that is?" Adriana asked in disbelief.
"I've only been in the beast land for three weeks, so I'm not acquainted with everything."
"Powerful orcs create inheritances to pass on their knowledge and possessions to the younger generation. But things are not that simple, else any weak orc could theoretically become strong. There are tests that you need to pass before gaining access to the inheritance," Martin said.
"That's correct and with the four of us teaming up, we can comfortably clear the tests," Charlie said.
"Whose inheritance is it?" I asked.
Silence reigned as none of them uttered a word for a full ten seconds.
"The thing is, we don't know. We can usually guess who it belongs to, but this time, there's no way to identify the owner."
"So what do you guys say? Are you in?" Charlie asked.
"Yes I'm in," Martin said.
"Count me in," Adriana said.
"What about you Jett?"
I scratched my head to make up my mind but found no reason to refuse.
"What's the plan then?" I asked with a grin.
"Great to have you on board. We'll be forced to stay with the group the first couple of days; however, at night, we will do some reconnaissance to locate the entrance of the inheritance. On the third day, the supervisor will allow the students to venture out on their own and that's when we'll carry out our mission," Charlie said.
"I'd advise everyone to keep this hidden from the adults as they'd just advise us to stay away from it. I don't want this inheritance slipping into the hands of the adults. It's time for us youngsters to rise up!"
Just as Charlie was finished speaking three waiters came carrying all of your plates and one of them was lugging my roasted pig.
"Our food is here, let's not stress about that anymore and let's enjoy the feast," Martin said.
"Yes, we've already agreed to everything, we just need to execute the plan," I said.
One of the server placed a gorgeous bottle of alcohol on the table and arranged coupes on the table; he then grabbed the alcohol and unsheathed a sabre. He positioned the blade at the bottom and slid it upwards; the Cork came flying off and a clean cut was left at the neck of the bottle. The waiter poured a bit of alcohol into each cup before departing.
The spicy aromas emanating from the pork permeated the air and made me salivate. The drool filled my mouth in anticipation. I grabbed my knife and fork and began by cutting a small piece of the savory meat; it was like a hot knife through butter! As soon as the food touched my palette, there was a flavor explosion that took over my entire body. My mouth was left with a peppery aftertaste when I was done swallowing the bite.
"Drink some alcohol, it goes perfectly well with the pork," Adriana advised.
I seized hold of the glass by the stem and downed the liquid in one gulp. Just as Adriana had said, this was a match made in heaven; the piquant taste from the meat paired well with the ambrosial flavor of the wine. We were like a pack of hyenas and ate everything so fast that we nearly choked on our food numerous times.
"What do you guys want for dessert?" Charlie asked.
"I'm so full that I don't think I can eat another bite," I replied.
"Same here," Adriana said.
We were drunk off of the food alone! Charlie settled the bill with one of the servers before speaking.
"Is everything fine for our plan?" he asked, to which the three of us nodded.
