The kitchen was filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the sound of birds chirping outside the window. Luna and Rachel stood at the counter, Luna dialing the number they had found in the dashboard of Rachel's car.
Ring!
The shrill ring of the phone pierced through the quiet kitchen. Luna and Rachel exchanged curious glances as they waited for someone to answer.
But no one did.
"Try again," Rachel said, urging Luna to make another attempt.
Luna dialed the number again, this time feeling a sense of anticipation building up within her. As the phone rang, she exchanged curious glances with Rachel, both of them wondering who would pick up.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, someone answered.
"Hello?" Luna said tentatively, her heart pounding in her chest. Rachel leaned in closer, her eyes fixed on the phone, as they both held their breaths, waiting for a response.
But there was nothing but static on the other end of the line.
