Luna took a deep breath before dialling Rachel's number. She had been sent to town with Drey, a member of the Blood Moon pack to get some much-needed supplies, but she couldn't resist the urge to call her best friend.
She had found a payphone and decided to take the chance to connect with Rachel.
"Hello" she said as soon as the call went through.
"Luna?" Rachel was shocked to hear Luna's voice on the other end of the line.
"Luna, what's going on?" Rachel asked, trying to sound as gentle and understanding as possible. "Why did you disappear like that? Everyone, your pack are worried sick about you."
"You're the only one who's allowed to worry, they don't," Luna replied, her voice hiding the hurt and anger she was feeling. "See, Rachel, I didn't mean to worry you. I'm fine, okay?."
Rachel could sense the hurt and anger in Luna's voice, and it made her heart ache. She knew that Luna was going through something difficult, but she also knew that her friend was fiercely independent.
