Chapter 36 - The Black Wizard

What treasures could be found on the fourth level of the Black Stone Tower? Let's take a look.

After obtaining such great rewards on the third level, my greed got the best of me and I couldn't resist the temptation to venture towards the entrance of the fourth level.

" Ding Dong, Stone City. This is the entrance to the fourth level of the Black Stone Tower. Do you wish to enter?"

"Yes."

In a flash, I entered the fourth level of the Black Stone Tower.

Suddenly, my eyes were met with a bright light. The fourth level was vastly different from the previous three. It was a grand hall, with four enormous stone pillars in the center. On the pillars was a platform, and on the platform was a fist-sized crystal emitting a purple light, illuminating the fourth level of the tower.

Next to the crystal, a wizard dressed in a black robe and holding a short, dark wand was chanting a spell. The crystal was enveloped in black light emanating from the wand, while the crystal itself glowed purple.

I was surprised that there were no monsters on the fourth level of the Black Stone Tower, only a black wizard performing a ritual.

I used the spell "Insight", but to no avail. I couldn't see any information about the black wizard, and his black robe covered him completely, making him even more mysterious.

I gripped my sword and held my shield ready as I cautiously approached the black wizard, curious about what was going on.

Even though the situation was peculiar, I wasn't afraid. I was even more curious, and even if something went wrong, it wouldn't be a big deal to respawn at the city and lose a few levels.

Just as I was about to approach the black wizard, he noticed my presence. He was facing the crystal and had his back to me, but he turned around and revealed himself to be a human knight.

The black wizard was alarmed. This was a critical moment in breaking the seal, and he couldn't afford any distractions. But now, a human knight had suddenly appeared before him, causing his heart to race.

How was this possible? How could a human have entered this place? This was clearly a sealed location, and the exit of the Black Stone Tower was well hidden. Furthermore, the third level was guarded by the werewolf Kabarou. How did this knight manage to get in?

Why has this happened? No human has visited the Black Stone Tower for years, let alone reached the third level. So why has this knight come here, and at the critical moment of breaking the seal? I was too careless and overconfident. The black wizard's face changed suddenly.

I don't know what the black wizard is thinking, but I clearly saw the change in his expression. Although he continued to chant his incantation, there was a hint of frustration and malice in his eyes.

Ha, you've caught me. Looks like the sneak attack won't work.

With a sneer, I accelerated suddenly and swung my steel sword in a "double strike" towards the black wizard. If the sneak attack failed, let's fight fiercely!

As I've said, even if I die, I'll only lose a few levels, so it's not a big deal. I'm not afraid of death, so what can't I do? Although this black wizard looks formidable.

Of course, I observed that the black wizard was busy manipulating the purple crystal with his incantation, so I boldly attacked, thinking that he would not be able to be distracted.

Indeed, the black wizard didn't even flinch in the face of my attack, and only increased the volume and speed of his incantation. It was obvious that he was at a critical point.

-3221, 3102, -3300, 6000. The black wizard took two "double strikes" from me, and a series of surprising damages appeared above his head.

Could it be that I took some kind of stimulant, or what? How could I be so powerful?

-3300, -3120. Another skill, "double strike", and a crimson number appeared above the black wizard's head.

Yes, I wasn't mistaken. It was over 3000 damage that I had dealt to the black wizard.

This should be related to the fact that the black wizard was busy manipulating the purple crystal and couldn't be distracted, so he suffered unimaginable damage from me.

Even after taking three "double strikes" from me and losing over 20,000 of his health, the black wizard still didn't fall. My first reaction was that he was a super boss. My second reaction was that I was going to get rich.

"Ah..."

Just as I was about to follow up and deliver another "double strike" to the black wizard, he screamed loudly and a flash of light appeared around him, leaving a residual image and causing my attack to miss.

It was the "blink" skill. With a blink, the black wizard evaded my attack and appeared five meters away from me.

This was bad. I missed my chance and my initial reaction was a bit disheartened.

The black wizard was even more frustrated. He had finally obtained the "Purple Radiance Stone" and could lift the seal of the Black Stone Tower by using the "Black Magic Reversal" skill. This would resurrect the Undead Sovereign of the Black Stone Tower and signal the revival of the Undead Army.

However, just as the black wizard was manipulating the "Purple Radiance Stone" with the "Black Magic Reversal" skill, this human knight suddenly appeared. He attacked the black wizard at the critical moment when the skill was about to be completed and when the wizard was at his weakest and had no defense.

The black wizard knew it was the final critical moment and that he was at his weakest. However, for the sake of the demon's mission, the resurrection of the Undead Sovereign, and the elimination of humanity, he resisted the knight's attack.

All the black wizard needed was a little more time to complete the "Black Magic Reversal" skill and lift the seal of the Black Stone Tower. However, was this knight really a knight?

He was completely different from the knights he was familiar with. The knight's attack speed was too fast, with continuous strikes that left him with less than 5000 health. He simply couldn't withstand another attack from this knight.

The black wizard was about to die a miserable death at the hands of this unknown knight, and reluctantly gave up the "Black Magic Reversal" skill and manipulating the "Purple Radiance Stone". He used the "blink" skill to snatch his life back from the jaws of death.

The black wizard was extremely frustrated, even filled with hatred towards this knight, wishing to rip out his tendons, dig out his bones, and drink his blood. However, abruptly stopping the "Black Magic Reversal" skill caused a magic surge in his body that prevented him from using any skills.

Although the black wizard is extremely angry, he has no choice but to refrain from using his magical skills. He cannot simply use his wand to strike this knight.

As the black wizard was pondering over this, the shameless, unchivalrous, and sneak-attacking knight had already begun running towards him, clearly vowing not to rest until he kills him.

"O' blackness that pervades the air, and undead that devour fresh blood, I call upon thee in the name of the Demon Lord, appear before me, my dark brethren."

The black wizard had no choice but to summon the monsters from the fourth floor of the Black Stone Tower using his magical wand. Although summoning the monsters from the fourth floor of the tower was relatively easy, considering that he was on the fourth floor himself, it still resulted in significant damage to his vitality. He wouldn't be able to recover for more than a year.

However, what else could the black wizard do? What other options did he have? His luck was just so bad today. He couldn't become a wandering soul under the blade of this unknown knight.

After all, he was the renowned "Dark Mage Mio Long." If he were to die such an inexplicable and humiliating death at the hands of an unknown knight, it would be the greatest shame of his life. He would become a subject of mockery for others. Even if his body were to fall into the sacred domain after his death, his corpse would not rest peacefully in the grave.
