Chapter 112 - Teaching Log 4

"Keke!" Log maniacally laughs, as he continues to slaughter the group of goblins in front of him.

Out of the five that we encountered, he has already defeated three. The two left are now struggling to approach him, scared that either one of them might be killed next. Unfortunately for them, Log is not passive in his fighting at all, he actively pursuits his enemies.

"Giii!"

The goblins shriek in terror when Log lounges at them. He was not any taller or bigger than them, but after witnessing how easily their comrades were killed, they now see him as a threat.

"Keke! Weak!"

Once he got close, Log immediately kicked the closest goblin to the ground, while he horizontally slashed at the neck of the other one. Then with one forceful downward stab, he went back to the first one he attacked and killed him too.

Just like that, all of the goblins were defeated.

"Did you see that, master?" Log enthusiastically ran up to me and asked.

"Hmfu... You did well," I nodded.

The truth was, I expected him to struggle and ask for help. Since I presumed he always has been one-sidedly beaten by his pursuers before, he should not have much experience actually fighting back. He's extremely outnumbered too, so I didn't think he would have much of a chance.

I was thinking of providing help from the sidelines, but he dealt with the problem all on his own. He might have some amount of talent after all? His instincts as a beastkin might have helped him out too. His techniques are a bit lacking, but he can easily improve that though training.

"But we're not done yet. We still need to find their nest."

"Y-yes! Leave it to me, master! I'll deal with those weak goblins myself!"

After that display, I think I can be a bit more confident with him. I'll watch over him just in case, but I'll make sure to step in if things get rough.

"But, master... Their nest, where is it?"

"Don't worry, as long as we look for tracks, we'll find it easily."

After explaining so, Log begins to frantically look for footprints on the ground. He looked evidently embarrassed when I pointed them out to him. Trying to redeem himself, he uses his sharp nose to predict where they might lead us to. It was surprisingly useful.

"Here I go, master!"

"W-wait!"

Like a berserker, Log instantly rushed inside the cave that is the goblins' nest. With no regards to his own safety, he begins to rampage inside the dark tunnel, swinging his large sword around and hitting anything that comes near him.

Thanks to his wolf-like sight, he's able to somewhat see into the darkness, or at least sense any movement around him with his other senses. Frankly, he's quite op.

"Giii!"

The goblins inside the cave begins to panic. Taken by surprise, they couldn't do much to fight back.

"Are you seeing this, master?"

To be honest, I couldn't see much...

"Dark magic: Night Vision," I casted the spell to see in the dark.

The spell activated, enabling me to entirely see what's happening inside the cave. There are about half a dozen goblin corpses that were littered near the entrance, and in front of Log, I can see another half a dozen facing him.

I cannot see any deeper, since the cave was quite deep. There might still be many more hiding inside.

A nest of goblins this size cannot be called small anymore.

"Master?"

I followed Log inside, surprising him and the goblins he was fighting.

"It would be safer if I go along with you. They might have some kind of leader guiding them, a group of goblins this size cannot function properly without one."

"U-umu... Okay, I'll deal with him too!"

"Idiot!"

"Kah!" Log winced in pain as I striked him with my fist.

"You can only take on goblins for now! You're still a rookie!"

I'm predicting that the leader would still just be a hobgoblin. With what I've seen of Log's capabilities, he would be a good enough match for it. Actually, if I'm correct and it is indeed just a hobgoblin, I'll let him fight it on his own. However, there's also the possibility that the leader could be much stronger, for example, if it's an ogre.

"Kikiki!"

Already forgetting about the enemy in front of them, the goblins begin to hungrily eye me all over. Their creepy tongues rolled out of their mouths as they drool at the obscene thoughts forming in their hopeless brains.

"Keh! You bastards! Stop looking at master like that!" noticing the expressions on their faces, Log angrily hissed, a vein popping in his forehead.

With even more vigor than before, Log begins to once again dismantle the goblins by their limbs. The tight entrance of the cave served as an advantage for him, as it prevented the enemies from swarming him all at once.

"Hey! If you're not careful!"

Just as I was about to warn him, a large figure appeared out of the shadows and swung a large club at his small figure. Noticing the assailant just in time, I moved in quick to get him out of the way.

"M-master!"

"Just as I thought..."

What appeared was a hobgoblin, a sub-species of ordinary goblins. Like them, it has green skin and an abhorrent face. The only difference it has with them was its height and its overall size. It's much taller and much heavier.

"A khobgoblin!? Kah! Why is it so big?" Log screamed, limping as I carried him in my armpit.

"Log, you let your guard down."

"N-no! I was just... I was just so angry with those shitty goblins!"

"Don't make excuses!" I flicked his forehead and scolded him.

"Uu..." he groaned.

While I was busy scolding Log, the hobgoblin approached us with heavy footsteps. The cave vibrate with every step he took, making it seem more threatening than it actually was.

"Human female. Brat cat," it spoke with its similarly heavy voice.

"It can talk!?"

"Brat cat, don't need. Human female, toy, breed."

"Kah! What did you say!?"

Like the smaller goblins, the hobgoblin seemed to have struck a nerve in Log. He's now like a cat hissing uncontrollably underneath my arms.

"Let me fight him, master!" he begged.

"Sigh... Sure, but don't let your guard down."

As long as Log doesn't let his guard down like he just did, I'm sure he would perfectly be able to defeat it. Then again, just in case, I'll carefully watch over him and protect him when it gets out of hand.
