Chapter 111 - Teaching Log 3

Just as usual, eyes were pointed at my direction as soon as I enter the guild hall. This time however, those eyes were not particularly looking at me, but at the kid on my side.

As expected, Log might seem like a weird addition to my party for everyone around. They already gotten used to Erika and co, but this is the first time they are seeing me with him.

Being a beastkin, it seems that Log's senses were high enough to sense the stares directed at him. He coward at them at first, but after loudly swallowing, he mustered enough courage to stand firm and follow my footsteps. Although, I can still see him shivering from stress.

Continuing to act indifferent, I went to the bulletin board and surveyed the quest list. Log followed behind me, his eyes spinning around, trying to read the words written on the papers.

"Don't try to take them all in at once, read the words one by one."

"U-umu!" he frantically nodded.

I carefully watched over Log as I went to look at the papers on my own. Sure enough, it did not take long for me to find what I was looking for: a goblin extermination quest. There are an abundant amount of them in the guild after all.

I promptly took one of them and handed it to the receptionist. Even if I'm currently the highest ranking adventurer in the guild, I still need their seal of approval for everything. No matter how insignificant the quest is.

"Miss Eria, this is?"

"There should be no problem with me handling this kind of thing, right?"

"That's true... But with your level, I think it's a bit too much of an overkill..."

The receptionist look bewildered at first, but when he saw Log beside me, her facial expression changes and her brows starts to twitch.

"We're actually having some trouble with a Lich making a home of an abandoned mine, so if we can ask you to..." and so she asks.

That's quite rude of her to blatantly ignore my request and to immediately ask me for a different thing. Even so, I can understand what she's insinuating. After all, having someone like me deal with a small number of goblins would be a complete waste of time.

"I'm a bit exhausted from my previous excursion, so I'll refrain from fighting strong monsters for now. I'll just take my time recovering and do simple quests like this to pass time."

"If I may ask... This child, are you taking him as your student?"

She's quick to catch on. In any case, from the view of everyone else, Log can be nothing else but my student or my own errand boy.

"That's right, he'll be taking on the enemies for me."

"I see... Eria, are you planning on making your own party? If so, there are many asking to form one with you. Many of them are at least C rank adventurers, there are also some B ranks..."

"Fufu... I'm not doing that. This is just a one-time thing."

"T-that's a shame..."

"So? It should be fine if I take this quest, right?"

The receptionist's expression dropped once she heard what I had to say. Giving up, she let out a sigh and then once again fixed her composure.

"Having someone do the killing of the enemies for you is a violation of the rules. You can't ask or hire someone for that. However, since it's you who is asking, I think we can make an exception. The guild won't have a problem with it."

Fufu...! Being a high ranking adventurer sure is convinient!

"Thank you! In return, I'll make sure to deal with whatever left over quests you have later."

"Please do so," the receptionist showed a grateful smile and bowed. After which, her gaze returned to Log, asking the obvious question, "Are you going to make an entry for him as an adventurer?"

"It's too soon for him to do that. I'll train him some more."

Besides, him not being an adventurer yet should prevent more jealous onlookers from coming at him. For now, everyone should accept him as my student. Even if not right away, they will eventually will. If he becomes an adventurer now, a gap between our ranks will appear, and adventurers who want to invite me to their parties or form one with me might become hostile towards him out of jealousy.

I heard even Erika and her party sometimes get rough treatment from other adventurers just by being friends with me. I can't even begin to imagine what will happen if they come after someone like Log.

"I understand," quickly reading my intentions, she nodded back.

"I'll introduce him properly when that time comes."

"Goodluck, kid!" she winked and cheered Log on.

"Keh... Th-thank you!" panicking over, Log stumbled on his words.

He sure acts shy and awkward towards strangers. He was the same when we first met. No, even now, he acts the same way towards me.

He always says that he's a proud wolfkin, but he's actually so far from being one. He did ask me to become his mate that one time, but other than that, he never acted arrogant or prideful. I think he's actually the opposite, and he's actually kind and grateful.

"G-goblins are weak! I can handle even a hundred of them! Keke! I'll make them grovel under my feet!"

I take that back... He can be arrogant and prideful. He can sometimes be an idiot as well.
