Bewildered, I walked away from thay mysterious club. A few steps away and I turned to look back hoping to see that mysterious lady, however I was disappointed to see the door was already shut closed.
I thought about her fortune telling as I walk towards our clubroom. She said that Lea will experience couple of dangers that I could not solve or where I could only help a little.
If she's not a quack then it's a worrying future, but looking at the bright side once the storms in her life passed Lea will be a happy woman, and I will finally be set free from my promise.
When I think of this way it only motivated me to continue working hard like a salary man.
I opened the door towards the clubroom and I guessed right because it easily slide without any hindrance.
"'sup David."
I greeted the disappointed looking detective inside before taking the seat in front of him.
"Oh...its just you Aster."
"Are you always expecting a victim to go to this high ass room everytime?"
From the disappointed look I could see on his face I think I guess it right.
"You're not a well-known around the campus, so even if they did find an interesting case they would not go to you instead the school.
"I suggest you go outside of this library and socialize with other people, there's higher chance of you picking up an incident that you could exercise your brain into than sitting here waiting for something to fell in your lap."
I sincerely advise him as I put down my already warm drink on the table and took a bite out of my sandwich. Now that I am in a club, it would be interesting if I could experience something like the ones I am reading.
"But a great detective is always seek by the police for help."
"Most of the plots in these books had those 'great detectives' trapped in a out of the country mansions in the middle of a heavy storm. How can you be a part of something like that if you hole yourself in this room?"
A buff guy with a red hair, the first impression of anyone who sees him is that he likes to play basketball, with his height why didn't he join there instead?
He did not reply to me and got back to the page of the book that he stopped before I interrupted him. I sighed, I wasted my saliva to make this guy to a better path but it seemed he himself is not willing to change.
That's what I thought when he suddenly snapped the book close and put it down on the table. I looked deeply in his eyes and found hesitation mixed with resolve in it.
"I-I'll go buy some drinks."
David stood up from his seat then he rushed towards the door leaving me taking the whole clubroom for myself.
I had to rewrite my impression of him once again. I thought he's a close minded idiot but no, he's just socially awkward guy that has a will to change.
"I should've tell him to buy me another sandwich."
My energy has been drained by that lady's fortune telling, but it would be a hassle to go back down and up again so I'll just put up with the tea in this room.
The silence, the aroma of sweet tea mixing together with the inks and paper, and the soft wind that's neither warm nor cold made me lost in the world of words.
"If it isn't Junior Aster."
I raised my head out of the pages and saw Senior Mary—no, Ms. Nassia entering the clubroom.
"Good morning Ms. Nassia."
I greeted her back but before I could shift the page to the next chapter she threw a stack of paper on top of the desk just barely missing the cup. I look closer and noticed that it was a newspaper of the Truth Publishing.
"I thought the school confiscated it all?"
"I have some connections." she sat in front of me and her index finger pointed to the large headline. "I had a high expectations of you so I can't say that I'm satisfied with this."
"I can't say sorry that I disappointed you, but I can tell you that I am not satisfied too."
"Oh? Did something happened then? From what I can piece about your information you are a petty person."
"Cough."
How dare she tell me that! I wanted to debate against her defamation but I don't want to waste my time, not because I am not afraid of her intense gaze really.
"Its because I realized that this case is much bigger than I first thought. Also that fly will bother us outside even if he is expelled."
Her smile widen and she chuckled softly like she heard a funny joke.
"That guy, bother you outside? Really?"
Damn this woman is really well informed!
"Well...its also because there's a good goat that suddenly showed up. It would be a waste not to use him for my escape."
"Hahaha!"
Seeing her laughing like this anyone would think that this middle school girl got accepted in her first choice of highschool. I found another thing that these Patterson siblings are I common, they are both personification of the saying: 'Don't judge the book by its cover.'
"You really hated that brother-in-law of yours."
"I hate him to my very marrow so don't gave him a title like that, he'll never get it."
"Sorry, sorry. I just find it envious how you protect your sister, you're a perfect little brother unlike mine. How about it, do you have any thoughts of having another big sister?"
She winked and I shivered, in fear. One was already too much.
"No, thanks. I will be more interested of a little sister."
"Are you a lolicon?"
"No. What is that?"
"Nevermind it, so we are talking here for couple of minutes already where's that stupid brother of mine?"
"Oh, are you here for David?"
"No why would I? I am here to get the next volume of the book that I am reading."
Ouch, I suddenly found a sense of camaraderie with that introverted detective. I took the cup for a sip but found that it's already emptea.
"Do you like a cup of tea, Ms. Nassia?"
"Please."
I stood up and moved towards the corner where the can of tea, the electric pot, and cup are located. While my hand moved to make that aromatic drink I explained to her what happened.
"So he followed your advice?"
"I don't know about that, but I hope he did."
"Hmm that stubborn fool at least listened."
I could sense the relief in her voice. She must've been also looking out for him in her own ways, she's jealous of me but I am the same too.
"Here."
I placed one of the steaming cup in front of her while I take the other one.
"Hmm...you're skilled."
"Thank you, but this good taste also speaks for the high quality tea leaves of the club. "
"Mhm."
Tranquility descended upon the two of us as we savored the cup of tea that I brewed.
"Speaking of club, do you still remember your promise?"
My hand holding the cup stiffened, I put it down so that no accident happens.
"Yes."
I thought that it would be easy to solve but now I find myself no one to recruit.
"So where's the 'two new members'?"
"Uhh...I already have someone in mind for the first one, as for the second....well...."
I hesitated not because I have no acquaintances but most of them are already in clubs as for those who don't all of them are problematic. I thought about Ron first when I promised, but now that I could see how serious he is in his study I am sure he would say something like this if I recruited him: 'I can't spare time in those fruitless activities.'. Meanwhile Justin would ask if there is a girls and when he sees the buff red haired David he will immidiately quit.
"Are you saying you can't fulfill the promise you made?"
She narrowed her eyes and maybe it's just my imagination but I heard something clattered, looking down I realized it's not, it was my cup that I am still holding which is currently dancing a top the small plate.
"Of course not! Just give me two—no, one week and I'll have them signed for the club."
Her eyes slant into smile when she heard that.
"One week. That's the exact words of the student council president towards me as she gave me the last stretch for the existence of our club."
I gulped, so that's why she was in a hurry. It would be bad if this club is abolish, not because I'll miss it but because I am scared of thinking what she'll do to me after that.
So I solemnly proclaimed to her, "I promised that in one week our club will be completed and starts it rise as the best club of this school."
"Alright I heard that."
She stood up from the couch, walked towards one of the many bookshelf and picked up a book before walking towards the entrance, and just before she closed the door we locked eyes.
"Thank you for the tea Junior Aster."
"You're welcome Senior."
I was smiling outside but goosebumps are already appearing in my skin, I think I should have cut my promise at the first part.
