CHAPTER 4
"Get married to my Mafia Lord" He replied in a calm voice.
"Mafia Lord! the Casablanca Mafia Lord Richard!" This was the least condition I could even think about.
I would never get married to Lord Richard, rumours had gone all around the town when his newly wedded wife had disappeared out of the blue.
Most of the people said he must have killed her but it was just a rumour. I wasn't interested in finding out the real truth. Whether he was or not cruel was none of my business back then. But I couldn't just get married to him, what if I too had to disappear like his first wife.
"I will rather get a loan from the loan sharks." I thought to myself, it was really going to be difficult to get one within the next twelve hours. But getting married to Lord Richard I would be as good as dead.
"The clock is ticking lady Caro. You have got to decide whether you will save Master Lawrence or not." Carpos Parker said while leaving his seat.
"Am..." My words were cut out when a cloth bag was put on my head. I was now completely seeing black. My hands were held behind me tightly but the grip was lighter than the one before.
I was dragged not seeing where I was going and the next thing I knew I was in the car boot. My legs were tied now that I couldn't kick it open. After fifteen minutes of the fast driving. I felt the car stop.
Right now I knew they wouldn't do anything to harm me because they wanted me to get married to Lord Richard. As the car boot opened, my heart couldn't help but race faster at the thought of not knowing what was going to happen to me."What if they have decided to get rid of me now." I thought to myself.
I felt my body being lifted carefully and placed to the ground and the ropes around my legs and wrist were cut. I quickly removed the cut ropes from my wrist. As I opened my eyes, the number plateless black van was already speeding off.
Looking around the now familiar street my eyes fell on our house where Madame Gorret was living currently with her two daughters Angela the eldest and Daphine the youngest. I always missed staying in that house because all of my childhood memories lay there.
But I couldn't go back to it now because I wanted to have a peace of mind and Madame Gorret wouldn't give it to me, back then when I was still staying there she wanted to break the trust between me and my father by accusing me of wanting to kill her.
I couldn't let my father go through having to choose between me and her so I left. The only person who would let me leave peacefully in that house was Daphine. Angela was the other version of Madame Gorret, she always acted just like her mother.
It was one in the morning and the house's lights were off.
"I will drop by in the morning. They must be asleep by now. I want to confront Madame Gorret about using my father's club as a collateral" I thought to myself as I walked down the street.
Placing hands in my overcoat. I felt a hard paper in it and pulled it out. It had Carpos Parker's name and phone number.
As I stared at it, thoughts flashed through my mind." Where will I get the ten million dollars by morning? Getting married in a mafia gang will make my life more miserable than it is right now. Rumours say that Lord Richard is cruel. No, I am not getting married. I will make sure I get the money before noon. I am going to ask for a loan from the loan shark Tappat who was close to my father. He might be able to pay his favour back, my father had been supportive to his business. I can't believe Master Brookyln was such a jerk"
Moving at a slow pace I came to a junction and across was the Liveson hospital. Crossing the road, I walked inside Liveson hospital through the quiet hall then moved to the elevator and within thirty seconds the elevator bell rang and I got out on the third floor heading to my father's private room. He was formally being treated on the VIP tenth floor but I couldn't afford their VIP bill anymore.
As I walked into his private room, his eyes were closed. His body was half covered having the electrocardiography attached. His ribs were visible through his pale wrinkled skin as his bony hands hung in the air above the bed.
Reaching out to his father's hand. "I will make sure you wake up father." Tears rolling down my eyes staring at my father's once health getting eaten up by sickness each and everyday.
"Going home right now is not helpful, I will just spend the night here. I dont know what will happen to him after the surgery. Let me spend more time with him now." I thought to myself.
I pulled a seat next to my father's bed and put my head on the bed next to his legs. I fell asleep unknowingly.
I woke up to a continuous beeping sound that jumped up on my feet. My eyes fell on the heart machine showing a flat line.
I stormed out of the room shouting."Help! please somebody help my father! " I cried out in a panic.
A group of nurses and doctors came running towards my direction including Dr. Albert.Perhaps they got the warning signal too. They walked past me and I followed them hurriedly with tears full in my eyes.
Dr. Albert called for the defibrillator and within the next minute the nurse came in hurriedly with it.
"Load 120J" He shouted.
The female nurse with it loaded.
He placed the two on my father's chest making his body jerk forward in a force. A straight line still showed up on the electrocardiography machine. My legs were trembling now, I never wanted anything bad to ever happen to my father. I don't know what I would do without him.
Loading again. Dr. Albert placed the machine again on his chest. There was no response to his father's vitals.
"Please doctor Albert save my father." I sobbed.
"Load 360j" Doctor Albert ordered.
The nurse immediately loaded again and Dr. Albert placed the machine on his heart. This was the third last time.
I fell to the ground in shock, petrified , staring at the electrocardiography machine.
