Chapter 37 - Chapter 36: Memories - Part 02

Arthur listened to those words during Christopher's explanation, his neutral expression confused and a little irritated.

With a long sigh he would interrupt and say.

"Protect me… right?"

He looked, keeping a serious look at Christopher who remained with his head down and a slight smile on his face, at the end he sighed and said.

"Yes."

For Arthur all that conversation was still strange and something new to him, his thoughts ran quickly through his mind as he questioned himself.

'So there really is something after death...'

'In the end, is that what brought him back?'

'All this from gods...'

With all those thoughts running through his mind, he just leaned his elbow on the table and said.

"And what happened after that? What did you have to do to… come back?"

Christopher gave a slight smile and closed his eyes imagining all that, but soon he held out his hand.

"If it's to sum up, I came back and just like you were already here. I was confused too, but it was like something was whispering to me every moment."

Arthur continued to stare with some doubt and distrust, but still Christopher continued.

"I remembered everything, it was like a vivid dream I had there. But someone also seemed to know about this dream I had…"

"Somebody?"

The blonde smiled and looked at Arthur with a nod.

His mind drifted back to that moment and he could see it clearly from days ago.

Christopher was standing, wearing a long white robe while his blond hair was still wet, showing that he had just left there, but what stood out the most was his surprised expression, because in front of him he saw a familiar face.

He was facing the clergyman who had a relieved smile on his face while his teary eyes showed fatigue, but soon the man approached Christopher and crouched down, getting a little lower than the blonde.

He had a calm expression and Christopher could feel relief coming from him, as if those emotions emanated and were transmitted to the young man who widened his eyes.

For a few moments the cleric continued to look at Christopher, until he brought one of his hands to the face of the blonde who remained still in disbelief, until the cleric said.

"Glad you're back, Christopher… thank our goddess…"

At that moment he realized that in that white room where he had spoken with the goddess, it was as if he heard prayers.

With all that rain of thoughts, confusion for everything that had happened and seen, but even the happiness for meeting a resident of Pasco, everything that Christopher tried to say did not come out, it just started a cry of relief and happiness for finding the Clerigo .

In an instant he jumped up and hugged the old man who received the hug with a smile and relieved to see Christopher well.

The blonde gave in and shed tears that fell like rain, while some people approached and looked with a smile when they saw that the boy had woken up.

Some time passed and soon attention returned to the two who were walking through the temple, Christopher had already changed his clothes to accompany the cleric who showed him the church facilities along with the people who had been rescued.

Even they didn't know Christopher, but soon after knowing the story in parts, the residents took the opportunity to meet him and he to greet everyone.

Most of the faces he couldn't remember for the darkness, but he could see a few marks that appeared to be from the creature's whips.

It was a pleasant time he had with those new faces, he knew the rest of the rooms, he knew an orphanage that was mainly taken care of by the temple.

The environment of the orphanage brought memories and he gave a slight smile much more nostalgic, little by little he got to know some novices of his age and some knights a little older.

Christopher ate in the cafeteria with the residents and spent the afternoon helping at the orphanage, in the end it was a receptive and pleasant place that made him temporarily forget everything that had happened.

Due to the rush, the day passed much faster than usual, night was approaching and the blonde was walking down the street with the clergyman who had accompanied his day.

Both had a slight smile on their faces and Christopher was talking.

"It's a lively place, the people are kind and the children are lively... it reminds me a lot..."

"Our village, isn't it?"

The cleric questioned with a smile on his face while the blonde lowered his head slightly, keeping the same smile and speaking.

"Yes..."

The whole village seemed calmer and less noisy, which made the conversation seem much closer and isolated from it all.

The memories of the day still ran through Chris's mind, who was much calmer than before, but soon the cleric spoke.

"What quest did you receive from the goddess, Christopher?"

That question surprised the blonde who stopped walking with his head down, the cleric stopped beside him and turned his face to the church still with a smile on his face.

"She gave you a quest, didn't she?"

Again the image of that white room was shown in Christopher's mind, the woman's words sounded in his mind as if they were a whisper and then, in sync with the girl's voice, he spoke.

"To be reborn... I must destroy the darkness... I must destroy Tenebres."

With the end of the sentence, the cleric partially turned his face, showing only an ear to ear smile as he said.

"It's a big goal..."

His voice came out with a certain animosity that even seemed to distort slightly, Christopher remained with his head down and the cleric brought his hand to his mouth, coughing a little as if trying to adjust his voice.

But soon he spoke quietly as he climbed the church steps with short steps.

"Don't worry, Christopher. I will help you with this, we will start by making you a knight, little by little you will get stronger and in the end..."

His steps stopped and he remained without showing his face, as he said.

"And in the end, you will destroy Noah's Ark."

The cleric's face was difficult to see through the darkness of the night, but all that could be seen was a wide smile on his face that waited for the answer from the blonde who remained standing without stepping on the stairs.

At the end thoughts of him seemed to resonate in his head, the training center explosion and the burns, every moment of pain that had him clenching his teeth.

Even the feeling of weakness when he had faced the monster in the dark, when he had been paralyzed by the occultist, and the pain of being run through by his fist.

All that whispered and the phrases spoken by the occultist echoed in his mind, until Christopher clenched his fists and said.

"Yes sir."

Soon his steps towards the stairs were taken and he followed the cleric with a determined look with a yellowish glow that slightly illuminated his face as he climbed the stairs, focused to start his path as a knight.
