Chapter 07: Attack – Part 02

Flames crackled and other houses continued to collapse, loud sounds echoing through the grounds and ash flying as the broken parts hit the ground.

The whole sound of the place boiled down to the flames and the falling debris, but little by little it was possible to hear the low sound of hurried steps approaching that little by little intensified revealing a race.

It was Arthur who ran with panting breath still with the scared expression on his face as he ran towards his house, he looked around still looking for life, but all he found were burned bodies and traces of destruction.

Streets previously full of people walking were now completely empty and destroyed, the memories continued to come in Arthur's memory as he approached his house still thinking.

'They must be fine, my father is strong... my house has to be fine...'

Even if it was a vain attempt to deceive himself, expectations were soon broken when he arrived where he had previously been home.

The swordsman's eyes reflected his house that was now unrecognizable, the front of the place was destroyed, the second floor had collapsed and now it was a pile of rubble still in flames, there was no sign of life even there.

Arthur didn't want to believe what his eyes were showing him, his expression had frozen in disbelief when he saw the state of his house, there was nothing left for him there.

Remaining silent as he watched the house go up in flames, he took a step forward and stepped on something.

Lowering his head to see what he had stepped on, it was the dojo sign that was still written on.

[Home of the Phoenix]

Staring at the plaque that formerly belonged to his home snapped him back to reality and yet as he looked, his eyes glistened and filled with tears finally settling into everything that had happened.

His legs gave out and he felt the weight on his body, forcing him to kneel on top of the plate, he tightened his lips while his expression remained frozen and his voice did not come out, only grunts and moans when realizing that everything he knew before now he was in a sea of flames, with nothing left to even seek the warmth of the place.

Tears fell and he put his hands on the ground still in despair, but when he would break down in tears, he heard something in all that noise of destruction that caught his attention, a cough that seemed low and painful, being heard only by the silence of the place .

The noise that came from his left, made Arthur widen his eyes and immediately look in that direction, hearing that sound, Arthur wasted no time and supported himself with both hands to get up, running towards the sound of the cough.

He couldn't recognize the voice by the low tone, he just recognized that it was close by a little.

Arthur ran in a hurry while twisting in his mind.

'Wait for me... be alive... whoever you are...'

The coughing gradually subsided, but it became louder and louder by the approach, until Arthur could see on the ground, a body half burned but still breathing, the right part of his body was burned and there was no hair or hair on that side, only the huge burn marks that ran down one side of the blond hair, revealing that it was Christopher, still breathing, but with difficulty.

Seeing his training partner still struggling, Arthur approached and crouched down to touch him, but carelessly, Arthur touched the wound and the touch made Christopher grunt and wake up still feeling all the pain that made some tears flow from his eyes.

Arthur looked at him and sat him down, Christopher slowly felt his vision clear and saw the glimpse of Arthur's face while again feeling his consciousness slowly being taken.

In a last glimpse he just touched Arthur's shirt as if he wanted to cling to it, but soon after he passed out again, letting the swordsman call for him in a desperate attempt to wake him up.

Seeing Christopher pass out, Arthur's eyes filled up again, but he clenched his teeth as the tears fell and decided to act.

Arthur took off his shirt revealing a cord with a golden ring attached to it and soon after he put Christopher on his back, again the blond grunt but did not wake up and the swordsman took the opportunity to tie his shirt between him and Christopher to keep him safe. safe while he went running.

He would have to be quick and even if he wanted to look back, he knew that it could cost Christopher his life and so he turned towards the exit of the village, turned his body and started running with his companion passed out on his back.

Christopher's body was hot and showed that at some point he had been hit, feeling that he needed to run as fast as possible, Arthur followed the main street amidst the various debris that still fell.

Again Arthur's run was heard amid the sounds of embers and falling debris, he continued to run at a fast pace while his tears fell, even scared and desperate, he could not stop and then he ran and ran with all his might.

The buildings continued to fall, it wasn't just fire but something else that made the buildings collapse while he thought.

'Damn it...'

As he passed at high speed dodging debris, he could see a house a little ahead of him collapsing, because it was a bigger house and the street was already taken by the destruction, it would be difficult to cross it if it fell and he would have to take another path.

'Damn it...'

However, he lowered his body even more and screamed.

"DAMN IT!"

The scream came out with pain and his brown eyes glowed back to their orange tone, his strength and speed were increased without him slowing down as he saw the wall falling.

The wall was collapsing and heading towards him, but even so, Arthur kept running and ducked even further so that Christopher would not be hit.

In moments it was possible to hear the sound of the wall hitting the ground, breaking into several stones and raising dust while nothing else moved, except for Arthur who had barely passed and continued to run towards the exit of the village.

The orange glow in his eyes disappeared, but he continued on his way, dodging various rubble that passed on the way and soon managed to reach the village's exit, passing through the wall that previously protected it.

Crossing the wall and already being able to see the river, Arthur ran towards it and jumped into the river after holding his breath with Christopher still on his back, submerging after that.

By the violence they fell into the water, it was possible to see her being pushed and after a few seconds both still submerged, the water calmed down.

Until moments later, Arthur came out with Christopher still on his shoulders, dragging himself to the sand and laying Christopher still passed out on his chest.

His body was now cold and Christopher's seemed to have lessened the heat, but still in the same position, lowered and with his elbows on the ground, Arthur shed tears and began to cry, finally being able to release what was inside, while it was still possible hear the crackling of flames behind them.
