While Kai continued to freak out, he followed an academy staff member to the academy.

They had sent someone to escort Kai to the academy. At first, they questioned Kai about his lack of uniform but after a quick explanation from Kai, they assured him it was fine.

"Are you sure it won't cause any trouble?"

"I am certain that everything will be okay. I cannot say that it is a common occurrence but as long as it doesn't happen again everything should be fine." The man reassured Kai as the two neared the entrance.

The man stopped and looked at Kai before giving him a small card.

"Here we are. Here is your seat location. Because you are from a ducal family your seat is upfront. You will be seated just to the left of the royal family. To your left will be the other three ducal families.

Other years also attend the ceremony so there will be an audience. I have been asked to tell the young master to behave himself and bite his tongue."

Kai's jaw almost dropped as he heard the last part. He knew exactly who asked for that message to be passed on and why.

'There is only one person who would make someone say something like that... Even when she isn't here my mum is trying to get on my nerves... It's not like I choose to argue or anything...'

Kai sighed and nodded his head.

"Alright, thank you very much. I better get going I guess. Thanks for showing me the way"

The man nodded hearing this.

"I was just doing my job sir." He replied before turning around and walking away.

Kai followed the man with his eyes for a moment before turning his attention to the entrance. He looked at the little card with his assigned seat and took a deep breath.

'I guess I should just go in, instead of putting it off. I mean that guy said everything will be fine. Then again why wouldn't it be? I mean who would start shit just because I'm wearing the wrong clothing?

I guess a staff member could but I doubt they'd be that unreasonable. They will probably just tell me to not be dumb and get a backup pair or two for next time.'

Having given himself an internal pep talk Kai smiled for a split second before going back to his neutral face.

Making his way into the building Kai didn't bother to look around. His main goal for the day was to get this over and done with and go home. He wanted to take a walk around town today with Leah but instead, he had to sit in some stuffy old building.

Kai followed the floating arrows and the flow of various people that Kai assumed to be other students.

The flow of people finally took him to the entrance to the hall. As he walked in he could see hundreds of students sitting in front of a large crystal. The crystal was easily 15 meters tall and sitting on a stage that made it appear even larger than it was.

In front of the crystal were steps that lead up the stage towards it. On either side of the crystal stood a robed individual. The robes were black with a 1cm thick red stripe going around the outer edge.

The faces of the robed figures were obscured in what looked like black shadowy smoke. The only visible feature was the pair of glowing amber eyes. Or at least whatever it was, it was where the eyes normally would be.

Their hands were in their sleeves while five books rotated around each of them. The books were blue, red, green, pink and yellow. They represented the four ducal houses and the royal family who were responsible for the founding of the kingdom and its continued growth and prosperity.

In front of the stage, Kai could see a few people sitting with blazers that were the same colour as the floating books. Some of the seats were empty but Kai just guessed that not everyone has arrived.

The only colour Kai couldn't see being represented was the blue colour of the Rose family which didn't surprise Kai in the slightest. He was the only member of the direct bloodline.

There might have been people related to him in the crowd but Kai didn't know them nor did he care about them. As far as he was concerned, they were strangers and didn't matter at all.

'AHHH, why do I have to sit at the front? I'd rather sit at the back and take a nap. This looks like it will take a while, there are just so many people here... I don't get why they couldn't just collect the student info at home and hand out books with images and their information...'

While thinking of how annoying the situation he found himself in was, Kai had a sudden lightbulb moment.

'Wait a second. If I could create something like this with up-to-date information I could sell it. With my inspect skill I should be able to get accurate and fresh information. While it won't work if their level is too high, I doubt I would meet a student with a high enough level.

The only concern I have is that they may have a skill that blocks my inspect skill or tricks it. I still have no clue how Jarlan did it. He had a different status screen in the beginning but it's not like he had a reason to change it. Maybe the skill was deactivated as Jarlan entered combat?'

"...me. EXCUSE ME!"

Kai woke up from his thoughts and turned around. Without realizing it he blocked the path.

"Oh, sorry" Kai apologized and moved out of the way as all the seats were quickly being filled.

"I guess I should go sit down" Kai mumbled to himself.

He made his way towards the front but a handful of rows before he reached his destination a hand stopped him.

He looked to the side to see a beautiful young woman with fiery crimson red hair that was tied into a ponytail. She had slightly tanned skin and golden amber eyes that reminded Kai of the twin figures standing by the giant crystal.

She had plump full lips with red lipstick that matched her hair. She was wearing a crimson red tie and blazer. They both had the academy symbol that was made up of the family crests of the five major families.

Kai knew that because she was wearing a unique coloured uniform she had to be a high-ranking noble. Unfortunately, he had no clue to which family she belonged.

He knew that Leah had tried to drill this information into his head but his mind was focused on a different type of drilling...

Not that it made a difference. In Kai's mind, this wasn't important information and anything Kai didn't consider important was immediately forgotten.

"Yes?"

"Where do you think you're going?" The woman questioned Kai in a strict and authoritative tone.

Kai looked at the woman for a moment in disbelief. 'Why is she asking a stupid question like that?'

"To sit down in my seat?"

"Aha, and where is your uniform?" The woman shot back.

"Well, obviously it's not here. Why? What is it to you?" Kai was now starting to frown. He had no clue who she was but she was beginning to get on his nerves.

"Haha. Very funny. Why aren't you wearing it wise guy?"

Kai sighed trying to calm himself down. He didn't want to tell this nuisance anything but at this point, he just wanted to get away.

"It got dirty alright? Now can I go sit down?" Kai snarled. He just wanted to go sit down and get this day over and done with.

"What about your backup?"

Kai turned his head around and the expression on his face made the girl realize what happened.

"You... don't have one do you?" She asked now in a gentler tone than before.

Kai simply nodded his head at the question.

The red-headed woman sighed as she rested her head in her hand.

"Alright, I understand. Just don't let this happen again. You will hurt not only the prestige of the academy but also the prestige of your family. How you present yourself is important, particularly at events like this."

Seeing how Kai was listening to her made her happy. When she first saw him she expected another brat that needed to be taught his place.

Luckily he seemed to be a person that could be reasoned with unlike a few others she stopped earlier.

"Speaking of, what family are you from? It looks like you were walking towards the noble section. I'm curious if I've heard of them or not."

"Why do you want to know?"

"Does it matter? I will find out soon anyway so it's not like it makes much of a difference if you tell me or not."

This made sense to Kai so he simply said one word before walking off toward his designated seat.

"Rose"

His action irritated the woman. One second she could have a normal conversation with the man and the next he walks away like a child without bidding goodbye.

"Here I thought he was reasonable and then he just rudely walks away like that, doesn't even ask me who I am..."

Unbeknownst to her, the reason Kai walked off without asking for her name was simple. He would find out soon anyway so there was no point in wasting more time.
