"Anastasia, Anastasia Malcolm," he said.
The nurse put down the file to look at the man, he was shaken all over sweating profusely.
"Ok Mr. Malcom, come with me" ordered the nurses, Mr. Malcom followed her to the room where Anastasia was admitted, Kyle was there to keep her company, the nurse who was attending to her before was already finished.
"Anastasia, my daughter what happened to you?" He asked almost in tears,
"Good day sir," Kyle greeted Mr. Malcom stretching his hand for a handshake, the man ignored it only caring about his daughter at the moment. Kyle put his hands back into his pockets and left the room the room angrily because he felt embarrassed.
"Dad, that was rude," Anastasia said looking baffled,
"What?" He asked her.
"My friend stretched out his hand for a handshake but you ignored him," Anastasia said looking disgusted.
"And how is that my fault young lady? Listen the only thing I care about right now is you and not some God-forsaken friend of yours." Her father said
"And do you also know without that friend of mine I wouldn't even be here?" Anastasia asked her father.
"How do you mean Anastasia?" Her father asked looking confused.
Anastasia told her father how Kyle had saved her from Jerome and had called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.
"Oh, my God! I didn't know" he said looking worried
"Just like you didn't know when you and Mom forced me on Jerome when you knew the kind of person he was, you both always sided with him and always saw me as the bad person" Anastasia retorted.
Mr. Malcom realizing his mistake, touched his daughter and tried to apologize,
"Don't touch me, I hate you just leave me alone." She said sobbing,
"Anastasia I'm sorry," her father said touching her shoulder.
"I said don't touch me, leave me alone I don't wanna see you. I hate you for everything you made him do to me" Anastasia shouted.
There was a commotion in the hospital as some nurses rushed to the scene to see what the hullabaloo was all about.
"Sir, you're stressing the patient, she needs to rest," said the nurse, "I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave."
"But she's my daughter" Mr. Malcom pointed out.
"We know sir, but please don't make this too difficult," said the nurse.
Mr. Malcom had no other choice but to leave, he went around hoping to see Kyle, but he didn't. He walked to the receptionist's desk to inquire about him.
"Hi, pls do you happen to know about the young teenager who passed by here, he was with my daughter in her room." He asked.
"Oh you mean Kyle, well he just left about thirty minutes ago," the nurse said," the nurse said.
"Oh my God, I'm doomed," he said placing his hands on his head.
"Are you ok sir?" She asked.
"Yeah, please anyway I could reach him?" He asked eagerly.
"Well, I don't have his contact but there is a way…"
"What way is that?" He asked.
"His mother works here as a nurse but she's in the theater performing a surgery," the nurse said. "Except you're patient enough to wait"
"I'll wait," he said.
"Ok, when she's out I'll let you know," said the nurse.
"Thank you so much," he said.
He sat in the waiting room for half an hour thinking about his daughter, she was right. He had been a terrible father, he didn't care what his daughter wanted he was just being selfish that was why he forced her to date, Jerome.
"Melinda, do we have another patient needing surgery today?" The doctor asked leaving the theater with the other nurse.
"No doc, that's the last for today," Melinda said.
Kyle's mother was the last person to leave the theater and soon as she came out she was headed straight to the bathroom. The nurse at the receptionist's desk signaled Mr. Malcom that she was the one. Mr. Malcom waited for her to get back before going up to meet her.
"Maria, have you seen my son?" Naomi asked the nurse at the receptionist's desk.
"He already went home ma'am," Maria said.
"He already did?" She asked. "That's weird.
Mr. Malcom walked to the desk looking rather shy,
"Good day, ma'am!" He said.
"Good day sir and how may I help you?" Naomi asked.
"Your son Kyle is a friend of my daughter, he gave me his hand for a handshake but I ignored it because I was worried about my daughter at that moment, so he left angrily. Now my daughter is mad at me, she wouldn't even talk to me until I apologize to Kyle"
"Who's your daughter by the way?" Naomi asked.
"Anastasia, her name is Anastasia," he said.
"Oh! I know her, the girl at the ward" Naomi said.
"Yes," he said looking stressed.
"You know what you did was wrong, Kyle has anger issues but I'll try talking to him," she said assuringly.
"Thank you so much," he said happily, "thank you."
"Pray he answers me, because when he's angry at someone he barely forgives," she said, "but I'll talk to him"
Mr. Malcom left the hospital feeling relieved and happy, and from that moment on he decided to change his ways.
Kyle got to the house angry, he ignored everyone he saw on his way back from the hospital and wasn't in the mood to talk to anybody. He didn't like being ignored as it pisses him off. When he got home he shut the doors behind him and went straight to his room where he collapsed on the bed. His phone rang and it was from an unknown number, this got him annoyed but he kept his cool and answered the phone to see who it was.
"Hello!" He said,
"Hello, am I unto Kyle?" The person asked.
The voice sounded familiar, Kyle kept mute at first trying to recall who it was.
"Yes, please who's this," he asked,
"It's me, Sophia," she said laughing "I can't believe you didn't remember me," she said chuckling,
"I'm sorry I didn't, I was quite in a bad mood, something happened at the hospital," he said sounding stressed.
"Really, what about?" She asked.
Kyle sighed heavily
"You know right after you left, I went to see how my friend was doing. Sue told me she wanted to call her dad as she couldn't find her phone so I gave her mine to call him." Kyle paused took a deep breath and continued. "After she was done we got talking again when her father came in, I extended my hand for a handshake but he ignored me as if he hadn't seen me so I left them alone and went home, I didn't even tell anyone I was going home." He stopped waiting to hear her reaction.
"Wow," she said, "that was rude, he shouldn't have done that."
"Well I've forgotten about it, I don't wanna let it bother me," he said.
"Yeah you shouldn't," she said.
"I know right," said Kyle laughing.
Sophia asked him if he would be free that Saturday,
"Yeah sure, why?" He asked her.
"Well, Saturday is my day off and I was wondering if I could come to visit, at least to know where you live." She said.
Kyle couldn't believe his ears, he repeated the sentence to be sure it wasn't a joke.
"Like you wanna come to see me on Saturday," repeated Kyle.
"Yeah, that's if you don't mind"
"Sure no problem, I don't mind. Besides my folks wouldn't be home that day." Kyle said smiling to himself,
"Is that so, see you on Saturday then, I'll be there by 10a.m sharp" she said.
"10 a.m sure, I'll be expecting you," Kyle said.
"I gotta go now, we'll talk some other time, see you on your Saturday" Sophia.
"Alright, take care, bye," Kyle said.
"Bye!"
Kyle hung up and lay back down on the bed, he seemed to have forgotten all about what happened at the hospital, he felt an inner surge of joy flowing through him, he couldn't wait for Saturday.
Kyle soon went about his chores, he cleaned the house till it was spotless, with no sign of dirt anywhere. He went to the kitchen to prepare himself something to eat, he looked around and saw nothing appealing to him, he later settled for a marmalade sandwich and orange juice.
