In town, two boys were walking side by side. One with black brightening eyes and the other with enchanting golden eyes. The pair attracted a lot of glances from the crowd. Most of which was that of disdain and fear, specifically towards Lucian. But Lucian and Nate didn't care, especially Lucian who couldn't even see.
Nate kept talking and describing some of the things being sold around. Although Lucian couldn't see exactly what they were, he enjoyed knowing all that. He could see the different color mist surrounding each object, those that were alive, their force glowed lively.
"So little god, can you guess how Arthur and your mother knew each other?..." Nate asked after speaking a lot about the things surrounding them and ignoring the way people looked at them.
"Am guessing when she lived in the palace... I don't know. Don't worry, we can always ask Arthur..." Lucian answered with a shrug.
" Or we can ask your mum too...hey there's some fighting going on there, let's go take a look..." Nate said and dragged Lucian along.
They got to a field where they saw a group of kids their age or older, who looked like they had been training. They had arranged themselves in a circular form and there seemed to be a fight in the middle as they were hooting and making noise.
Lucian and Nate got closer and lo and behold, in the middle was their archenemy Roland and another kid they didn't know, fighting. The skills they were using were basic, and you could tell they had just learned them and hence were not perfect. Beside them sat an older man watching the show. He was probably their trainer.
The fight finally ended with Roland viciously striking the boy's calf. The boy whimpered and fell to the ground, shooting a hateful glare at Roland.
"You cheated..." The boy hissed.
"No, you lost because you're weak" Roland shot back. He turned to the crowd with a smug look on his face and shouted.
"Whose next? " Then his eyes suddenly met with the two faces he despised the most. The other party especially Nate wasn't looking at him with a friendly look either. He would have feared if it was just him, but here, he had a lot of people and his teacher by his side, so he felt confident.
"Ooh, we seem to have visitors. The freak and the freak keeper has finally decided to step out of their shell today..." He said and smirked.
His words caused everyone to look in the direction he was looking. Only then did they realize the town's devil and his counterpart had appeared. They instantly pushed themselves away. And those who think their clothes might have brushed off Lucian started to wipe off imaginary dirt from them. Nate glared at their actions and Lucian held his hand to drag him away. He didn't want to cause trouble.
"Ooh, are you running already... " Roland said and the others got the hint and blocked their path. The older man sat there indifferently as he watched the scene. He was done with his training with them today and hence did not care what else they did. Also, he would like to see what this rumored devil boy could do.
Seeing the kids blocking their path, Lucian sighed, this time they had come to find the trouble.
Turning to face the instigator of this, Lucian sneered. "What do want? I don't think we've stepped on your toes or anything..." He said calmly.
"Well, I asked who wants to fight me..." Roland said, somehow enjoying this.
Nate scoffed and answered " Well, that's bad. We actually don't fight chickens..."
Hearing this Roland glared. Who was he calling a chicken, him??
"Are you scared because you don't have anyone teaching you? Why don't you step closer and I'll show you a few skills... If you win, my teacher can consider letting you join us..."
"A nice reward, but unfortunately we truly don't fight chickens..." Lucian answered with a smirk.
"And wouldn't want to train with chickens either..." Nate continued.
Their words angered everyone including the said teacher. Did these brats mean he was training chicken? Was he a poultry farmer? He initially didn't want to butt in, but the kids had indirectly insulted him.
"You dare insult my students? Nate, your father is an honored knight, it's a shame he has bore such a useless son. I had wanted to take you under my wing, but seeing as all you do is follow that devil around, am glad I didn't..." The man said. He was named Kendrick and was also a knight who had worked with Gary, hence he knew Nate.
Lucian stepped in front of Nate...
"You have no right to insult Nate. No matter who you think he is, he is a thousand times better than you and your so-called student... If you have any grudge, head it to me. Don't involve Nate..." Lucian said, there was a little tremor in his voice that caused Kendrick and the other kids to shake in fright. It annoyed Kendrick so much that a little boy could frighten him, especially those eyes. He couldn't even look straight into them.
Seeing the awkwardness, and how their side seemed to be losing from a few sentences. Roland gritted his teeth, he didn't want to act defeated by just a few words.
"How...how dare you speak to my teacher like th..." before he continued, his clothes suddenly caught fire, causing Roland to freak out as he started jumping and cursing attempting to put off the fire. Everyone else was stunned. What was going on? They all turned to look at Lucian in fear.
"Little god, that's very good. But make sure you don't kill him. You can burn him a little..."
Nate said in a hushed voice to Lucian. He looked very happy.
Lucian furrowed his brows.
"Am not the one doing that..." Lucian whispered back shocking Nate. He wouldn't do something like that in public to bring them trouble. Besides he still didn't have full control of his powers.
"You..you're not the one... Then who.." Nate said and looked around. He then sensed a strange aura, but he didn't know where.
Lucian had sensed the person behind it. Looking in that direction, a few distances from where they stood, someone hid behind a tree. The magic fluctuation that caused the fire was flowing from that direction.
Judging from how small her soul figure was, he guessed it was a girl their age. Who was she? From her soul, he knew she wasn't like him. Hers was just like the humans but had a lot of magic in it. Was she a sorcerer like Grandmother Liz?
