Although Morne had hoped that the mushrooms had survived the death of the Runner, as he was certain that these were the source of its incredible speed, he hadn't expected them to still be so full of life.
Willow was still folding and shaping the life force within the circuits as normal, but as it did that, the previously still blood within its veins roared to life, pumping with vitality and sinking into the flesh of the Runner.
Thin tendrils of life force stretched outward from the bones of the mutant, anchoring themselves to its muscles and brain to later establish a chain of command to allow the Runner to move.
But as if the mushrooms weren't satisfied with this, the stuff running through its veins pulsed, the circulatory system of the Runner bulging underneath its skin like coiling snakes.
