After half a minute of searching, he pulled a small wooden box off the shelf, thumbing the clasp open and peering inside.
"Well?" Geleb asked.
"Just crumbs," Morne replied, tossing the box to him. "I'm not that hungry."
Geleb was sure Morne was exaggerating, but when he caught the box and looked inside, there was nothing but a handful of bread crumbs. Either the vampire had recently fed her "livestock," or she didn't care enough to keep them properly fed.
Either way, Geleb scarfed down what little there was, placing the empty box on the bed beside him. He didn't bother to ask Morne to search for more. He had seen Morne comb all of the shelves for something that stood out, and this was the only thing that had caught his eye.
He suddenly felt pleased that he hadn't given in to the vampire and become her thrall. If these were the living conditions he could expect, there wasn't a pretty-faced master in the world that could make this worth it.
