Getting an extra day while the arena was resurfaced gave Finn a good amount of time to look at the brackets. Things were much clearer after first day's matches.
The first thing he noticed was that Vanya had somehow gotten placed into the secondary bracket, swapping places with Katyusha - who was a very nice girl and all but for some reason Vanya insisted on him not interacting with her, even on the train. That meant that, if the gods were cruel, there was a not-unreasonable chance he'd end up having to fight his own lover.
It was a losing proposition for him because they hadn't fought since they were both at the Center and also because he saw what Vanya did during the third round of the King of the Hill battle in the Commonwealth.
