If someone had asked Xu if she'd ever wanted to return to being in charge of a base, her answer would be 'No,' followed by 'Who sent you?'.
Years ago, she'd done the hard work of setting up the base in Zanlung Canyon, and while she could proudly walk from its flight line to the science wing's command post, she felt no urge to return to the past.
She was not, after all, here to socialize, and the new base commander, who Xu remembered was Colonel Shenghe, was not expecting her.
The person she was here to see, however, was.
She also wasn't in her lab where Xu expected to find her.
"Where's Dr. Altay?" she asked at the front desk of the science lab's command post.
"I'm sorry, Commander, but any visits with the Chief Scientist require prior authorization-"
