At the Commander's Mess, Zai happily accepted Commander Beidou's coffee as soon as she sat. Rui sat to her right, and Major Hong sat across from her. For some reason, he'd brought his defector on board, a Usonan Lieutenant of Aviyan descent. She was not at the Mess, but had been quartered in a bunk across from him. Zai had her own quarters, and she'd used the privacy to meditate for her first day on board.
"I hope your accommodation is to your liking," Commander Beidou said to her from the head of the table. Zai was sitting at her right, as guest of honor.
