The woman charged, and it was everything Xu could manage to drop her field and leap backward.
The swinging of her right arm brought the shimmering line of soul-enhanced wire whipping toward Xu, and she felt as its tip carved into her gas mask, leaving a bloody cut along her cheek all the way to her nose.
The bottom half of the mask came loose but was still held by a thin strip of rubber, and Xu tore it away as soon as she hit the ground.
The berserker lurched in her direction.
Xu drew her bayonets.
She had no idea of the length of the wire, and with the berserker focused on her, she didn't dare risk trying to leap again to escape up the cliff.
Just as the berserker came to strike again, Xu deftly leaped backward out of range.
