Amri sat for a long time in the pilot's ready room, sitting at the bar-style counter and staring at the patterns on the wood.
She didn't want to think or remember the feeling of wiping out eight lives with her gifts.
She sat alone, left there by Captain Hong while he attended to the removal of his dead gunner. Her guards found her shortly after, but at her request, they waited outside the door, and she tried to pretend she didn't notice them peeking in regularly.
She was still sitting there when he returned, along with his remaining gunner and a bottle of amber liquid that lacked a label.
Without asking, he sat one seat away from her, while his gunner took the seat next to him, placing a trio of tin cups on the bar.
"Do you drink, Ace?" He asked.
"It's Doctor," Amri said.
"You downed five planes. That makes you an ace. Normally it's a title for pilots and gunners but..."
