Nurezhin, The Kingdom of Aviye
Xu
Xu held her pistol steady as General Jiang seized Ambassador Sommer and put his pistol to the man's head.
She trained her sites onto Jiang's forehead but held her fire.
"So you're the Ghost," Jiang said, licking his lips. "Make one more move and I'll kill the Ambassador," he threatened. "It'll be war with the Hegemons again, and we'll all lose."
Xu wanted to sigh, but she held still. "General Jiang, I encourage you to surrender. There's no need to keep fighting your own people."
Jiang laughed; a rough but tired sound. "Surrender and what? Be executed? I took the best deal Aviye was going to get. It's you that should be surrendering to me. Now place your pistol on the ground."
Xu tilted her head. She was genuinely confused at the man's misplaced logic. Why would she disarm herself when only the threat of her killing him was keeping him from killing Sommer.
