Xu and her team landed with no resistance. The only damage sustained was to her relationship with Quynh, who punched Xu in the shoulder as soon as she was free of her parachute.
"You pushed me!" she said incredulously. "I can't believe you just pushed me out of a plane!"
"You were hesitating. I thought you understood that flying out didn't necessarily mean landing," Xu argued in a reasonable tone.
While she kept her voice level, in truth, Xu had been very concerned Quynh might have forgotten how to activate her parachute. She'd spent much of the free fall trying to keep close to Quynh, only pulling her chute after Quynh remembered hers.
They were still arguing when Private Avshar found them, sprinting through the tall grass.
"Captain," Private Avshar panted, "Patrol... behind me..." She wiped her forehead under her helmet.
