The next morning, Zai was unstoppable.
She felt so good, she barely noticed her hour in the serving line or the smile on her face as she filled everyone's orders. She even started to do little tricks like tossing one utensil in the air and swiftly serving other entrees before arriving just in time to catch it, gaining applause from people in line and some of the nearby table.
Towards the end of her hour, Amri and Captain Xu arrived, as invited, and each had something to say about Zai's grandstanding.
Amri complimented Zai on finding a way to practice standing meditation but cautioned her not to get too distracted.
Captain Xu asked for her meal without any showy maneuvers. Her request came with a very stern look that Zai interpreted as disapproval, before realizing she was becoming capable of seeing the slight variations in Captain Xu's normally stoic features.
