Rui pushed off the ground, snatching Yue by the arm as she threw her away from the flames gathering around her.
A moment later, a massive explosion consumed the air around her, and she felt her armor crack all over as she braced, weathering a cascade of bursting embers that shoved her this way and that before she found enough footing to jump backward and out of the way.
She landed on her heels, skittering her steps as she tried to stay standing, her ears ringing from the bursts. Heat began to flow down her chin, blood leaking out of her ears as she shook her head.
The Ascendant of Flame's mouth was moving, but she couldn't hear him. He lowered his shield, and the whole thing lit up as a wall of pure qi formed around it, his other hand sheathing itself in flames.
