Zai
"If there is nothing for me to learn, why am I still here?" Zai asked.
She was sitting atop a pillar, across from Shenmi, and had just come out of yet another long chant from which she'd gained no particular insight.
Zai had mastered the Song of Eightfold Meditation, all nine sutras. She'd worked through the intricate, layered meanings of dependent arising. Broken through every logic puzzle Shenmi had thrown at her - at least the ones that made enough sense to - and yet still, Shenmi did not release her from her own mind.
