Looking at Zai, Xu knew the question in her eyes.
What do we do now?
"I'm almost completely shot," Zai admitted.
"I have one shot left," Xu replied. She'd carefully conserved her bullets, but the Ascendant of Water had a way of turning sure hits into near misses.
They both jumped back as the Ascendant of Water struck, assaulting both of them at the same time.
"You just-" Zai blocked and dodged "-had to shoot at her."
"I saw what-" Xu took a kick to the left arm, one that felt hard enough to crack the bone, "-she was about to do!" she argued back, swiping with her knife and forcing the Water on the defensive for only a bare second.
