Maya awoke in Auntie Amri's bed and stretched.
She knew she shouldn't sneak into Auntie Amri's bed to sleep anymore since she was a big kid, but she'd been really scared yesterday and she had a bad dream.
Yesterday she'd been in the barn with Uncle Yuu when a bunch of soldiers burst in, looking all over the place before they finally left. It made the dragons scared which made Yuu panic trying to calm them, which made Maya scared, and when Maya was scared she started singing.
It was just a quiet little tune, a children's song her mom used to sing, but it had left the pair of soldiers guarding her feeling too calm. Calm enough that they fell asleep standing and had to be shaken awake. She spent a long time apologizing while everyone had to wait, and she didn't sing again.
