Synopsis
“For you see, Watson!” “I told you, my name isn’t Watson, it’s Brett.” A clean shaven man covers his face in exasperation at the ridiculous situation. “Being the greatest scientist in the land, I will solve this Zombie problem!” A crazy looking old man says as he leaps to his feet. “I thought you said you were a doctor.” Brett replies. “Shut up! Now, we just need to bring in people from another world until we find one that is resistant to the Zombie disease. By gathering people with widely varying DNA we increase the chance that one will have some odd trait or innate immunity.” The doctor croaks. “I guess, but couldn’t someone on this planet just as easily have something like that?” “We don’t have time. We need to find a cure as quickly as possible. It may only be in one or two towns at the moment but it will soon spread like wildfire and engulf the entire planet!” “Couldn’t we try to quarantine the area and prevent it from spreading.” “Haven’t you ever seen a Zombie movie? That never works.” The doctor waves off Brett as he approaches the summoning circle. “Right, I’m sure those movies were all scientifically accurate.” Brett says as he rolls his eyes. “Also, how do you plan on using someone’s DNA to make a cure? This is a medieval society with no modern technology. We can’t cure a headache let alone manipulating the genome to cure some Zombie disease.” “All in a matter of course, dear Watson.” Doc says as he begins activating the summoning circle. “For the last time, my name’s Brett!” “You may not be able to see as far ahead as I can, but I assure you, I have everything under control. My genius has already begun to bear fruit as I have created the first of many modern installations!” “All you did was make a table.” Brett responds as he walks towards the solid steel table at the center of the summoning circle. “And didn’t you make this with magic? How can you call that a scientific advancement?” “To you it may be just a table but to me it’s the first step to saving the world! Activate!” The summoning circle glows as magic power courses through the complicated runes. A bright light flashes and suddenly an unconscious man is lying flat on the table. “It worked! Check to see if he’s okay!” “Are you surprised it worked? I thought you said you tested this thing.” “Shut up and check on him!” Brett places his hand on the man’s neck to check his pulse. “Yup, he’s fine.” “Fantastic! And you didn’t even collapse into a black hole from touching him.” “I’m sorry, what?!” “Oh, due to the disruption in spacetime there was a small chance something like that could have happened. Obviously, it was nothing to worry about.” “Maybe for you! Why didn’t you say anything before I touched him?!” “Quiet, he’s waking up!”

Chapter 1 - What year is it?

"Where am I? What's happening?" The man asks as he looks around the dark stone room. Many odd looking devices litter the floor.

"Do you remember anything?" A grizzled man asks from a few feet away. A third man stands off to the side.

"No, what? Wait, who am I?!"

"Perfect!" The grizzled man says as he flashes a disgusting smile.

"What the hell do you mean, perfect? Screw you dickwad!" The man spits.

"I'd like to congratulate you on your successful journey as you are now in another world. I shall call you C27. You are the first of many that I will bring here for my experiments."

"Yeah, not doing that. I'm out of here." C27 struggles to move but something invisible is holding him back. "Hey, what the hell?"

"Do you really think I'd tell you all these things without restraining you?" The Doctor asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Good point, please continue."

"Now, where was I? Oh yes, earlier you asked where this is and I'll inform you that it's the planet of Venew. As for what's happening, I'm about to kill you!"

"Oh, ok."

"What's with that response? Don't you want to live?"

"Well, I don't have any memories so it's not like I'm going to miss anyone. I don't really have any goals or anything so it's not like I have something to live for. Plus, one of the few things that I know exist in this world is your face, which is so ugly it makes me want to kill myself; so honestly you're doing me a favor."

"Ha!"

"Shut up, Brett!"

"Oh, so you do know my name."

"Don't get snippy with me. Now to get on with the experiments." The doctor declares.

"Could you kill me first? I don't know how much longer I can stand looking at you." C27 says with a smirk.

"Ha!"

"Shut up, both of you! Now, I'm going to inject you with the Zombie virus and we'll see what happens."

"Won't I just turn into a Zombie?"

"Not necessarily. There's a chance you may have a recessive gene or some type of immunity to the virus which we could use to create a cure."

"Neat."

"Yes it is, actually. Now, hold still."

"Ow." C27 jerks to the side as the serum is injected into his arm. "So, now what?"

"I already told you; now you die." The doctor pulls out a crude looking gun and points it at C27's head before quickly pulling the trigger. The room goes quiet as the man's body falls limp like a puppet with its stings cut. Both Brett and the Doctor look at the fresh corpse on the off chance that something odd happens. Eventually, Brett breaks the silence.

"Wouldn't it have made more sense to keep him alive?"

"Sh- wait, you might be on to something. Okay, from now on we'll try to keep our test subjects alive."

"Well , what do you want me to do with this one?"

"Just throw it to the dogs. They could use some fresh meat."

"Whatever you say, Doc."
