Swoosh, a young girl could be seen firing an arrow in the forest. She closed her eyes and heightened her senses as she drew her weapon and while her eyes were still closed, she released the arrow and it flew straight into the red spot on her target. She opens her eyes and saw that she had hit the bull's eye.
"Did you see that Aunt Kim? I was able to hit the target without looking"? She said to the older woman standing beside her.
"That has to be a form of magic right?" she asked with an exciting tone as she held the Kim's hand. Kim who had watched Miri grow up ever since she was a baby couldn't help but smile at the young girl. Even though she had her doubt about raising the child at first she had grown attached to the child and was even the one that taught her archery and swordsmanship to cheer her up when she discovered she couldn't practice magic like everyone else in the castle.
Miri had grown up surrounded by the many wonders of magic only to be crushed, when she was told that she could never practice what she had grown up admiring. But she didn't give up though, she kept on practicing different form of martial arts and fighting skills, and she had a lot of teachers in which Kim was one of them.
"If I can learn how to fight and hone my skill maybe I'll unlock fire magic or blood magic, but moms magic will also be a cool thing to have too" Miri said to herself reassuring herself that she would one day be able to practice magic.
"So what do you think"? Miri asked Kim with an exited tone.
"Well you are really skilled with the bow, but I'm sorry, there was no magic in what you did, only pure skill, which says a lot".
"Are you sure"? Miri said
"Yes, I'm pretty sure" Kim replied
"But I thought…" Miri said
"You are already special and strong my dear" Kim said trying to encourage her. . I believe you will be able to hold your own against any mage". Kim said as she tried to encourage her precious Miri.
"A sleeping or dead Mage". Miri replied feeling down.
"I want to be able to practice real magic too". Miri said in protest
"Only witches can practice magic my dear and you are not a witch". Kim replied trying to make her drop the notion and accept her limit. But she knew the girl was stubborn because, this was not the first time she was saying those lines to her, somehow the girl had managed to make sure that she was always reminded of the fact that she couldn't practice magic.
"I wish I was a witch like you Aunt Kim"
"And I'm really grateful you are not" Kim replied which made Miri pout her lips in protest
"How about a quick spar?" Kim asked
"Now you are talking" Miri replied as she dashed toward a teacher with full speed.
After few minutes of beating Miri got tired and went for a shower.
After her bath, she went to her mother's office too talk to her mom.
"Hi mom" she said as she walked into Lucianne's office.
"Hello Miri, I can see you lost to Kim today again" Lucianne said to her daughter as she noticed the new clothes she had on.
"Aunt Kim is very strong and I think even you would have trouble dealing with her"
"Oh, you think so?" Lucianne said.
"We could go now if you think you can, win but I'm sure we both know you'll lose." a voice said from Lucianne's office entrance.
"That would be a hard pass for me; I hate unnecessary sweating and don't get me started on the smell" Lucianne said
"You're no fun" Miri said to her mom
"She used to be a strong fighter your mom".
"Really?" Miri asked wanting to hear more
"Of course, she didn't become the queen of witches for her magic alone"
"She and I used to spar a lot back in the days".
"But ever since she got this post… I guess it require more magic than muscle for her." Kim said
"Please, I could still sweep the floor with anyone physically, but like I said, why should I when I can get the same result with the snap of a finger" Lucianne snapped her finger in demonstration and a piece of paper caught on fire which surprised Kim at how her powers had not faded over the years and Miri found it cool that her mother could do that, even without even trying.
"Anyways, Lucianne said while putting out the fire. I'm still not the one who had her ass kicked by an old lady."
"Who got her ass kicked"? "Who are you calling an old lady?" Miri and Kim asked at the same time.
Suddenly a knock was heard on the door.
