Turning her head around and seeing a guard with a pistol in his hand, her whole body shook with rage, and she exploded towards him. Kicking his jaw, she broke it in an instant and picked him up, slamming him against the wall.
The other guards began to shiver in fear, unable to pick up their weapons. The fear had overtaken their reasoning, and Clara used this to her advantage. Tossing the man aside, she looked at the other people who now had their guns pointed at her, but she could notice the subtle shivering of their fingers.
"You will all pay for what you have done" she bellowed and quickly squatted down next to Lucas, making sure to listen to his final words as he was coughing out blood. Pulling the key that was hanging around his neck, Lucas placed it in her palms.
"Remember the locked drawer? Take the box and run away from here. And thank you, Clara. I am proud to be your father."
She couldn't understand what was going on as everything was extremely confusing to her. She wanted to refute and ask everything which was going on, but she didn't know where to begin.
Looking at the key and a small chit paper shoved alongside it, she followed his instructions to the letter. The men that were standing around had their aim, and the moment she moved from the spot, were ready to shoot at her.
"Daaaad", she muttered whilst looking at him with tear filled eyes, and a smile spread across his face. He caressed her cheeks, leaving a small bloody fingertrail behind.
"You have finally begun to walk the path of a human. Congra….", he coughed once more and looked at the people around. "Run as fast as you can, take it and leave. You will understand what I mean only when you leave this place."
She didn't hesitate and trusted her dad's words, mapping out the shortest way from the place she was to the drawer and out the window. She knew her way around the place, and the situation was not favourable to her.
"Why don't you give up now? You think you will be able to stop the world from evolving forward? We are just lacking behind you", came Lee's sarcastic voice. She was angry at the man who had initiated something and had destroyed the peaceful life she had all this time.
"You will pay for what you have done today. Mark my words. I, Clara Davidson, vow that I will take what you love the most away from you. You shall experience something far worse than I."
Lee laughed his heart out, holding a side of his stomach and looking at his men. They all chuckled alongside him hearing the words from her. Lee was amused as to how she would be able to exact her revenge when she didn't have her way to escape at the moment.
Lucas coughed one last time as he got up from the ground, leaning on something next to him weakly. His legs were wobbling but his vision was clear, make sure Clara got out of here safely.
"Lee, you enemy is… coughs… me…", he coughed a mouthful of blood, and redirected the attention towards him. He trusted Clara would know what to do, and even if she was hesitant, he had the self defence mechanism active to make sure she left the place.
Clara's body moved on its own, and she had reached the drawer before she knew it, and rarely anyone noticed. It was when she was near the window with the box did Lee notice her escaping, and ordered his men to make sure she doesn't escape from their sights.
Her legs froze and for a second and it twitched, not escaping the eyes of Lucas. A wide smile spread on his face, reminiscing the times he had taught her everything that he knew about the ways of life.
"Seems like you have become more human than I expected you to be. Be free, my dear daughter. Don't let anyone tie you down, and protect them. I love you, Clara", he muttered in a weak breath and turned his head back to face his enemy, Lee.
Confusion spread across her face whilst pondering over his last words. She couldn't understand the term 'become more human'. All she knew was that she had been human all this while.
"What do you mean I've become more human?", she questioned, only to see him get beaten by Lee with a single punch. Anger surged through her body and wanted to take him down, but the look in her father's eyes made her question her decision.
"Go. I said, GO" he bellowed in a deep voice and Clara's body moved on its own, her eyes turning lifeless in an instant. Jumping out the window, she reached the bottom of the apartment and looked above, conflicting emotions running through her head.
"Stay vigilant, my dear daughter. I am sad that I couldn't see you grow any further", he muttered, watching the curtains flutter, hallucinating her running around the house all the time.
"Let's end this, shall we?" He raised his voice and looked at all the people who were there, ready to take one last stand against the people who were after his daughter. Looking at the apartment that was in a state of tatters, his heart went into turmoil.
"Twenty three years, that's how long I had dreaded for this day" he thought and put his hands at his hip, counting the number of heads that were there Seeing that there were five, he clicked his tongue.
A tense atmosphere surrounded all of them, not knowing when one of them would make a move. And the moment one of them made a move, all hell would break loose.
Lee was standing by, and hesitated to give an order. The scars on his face were a testament to how smart each of them were individually, and how they worked together as a team. With all of their fingers ready on their triggers, they were all waiting for the right moment.
"BANG!"
"THUMP!"
The moment the shot was fired and one of the guards fell to the floor, Everyone triggered and gunfire spread all around, making Lee roll on the ground and take cover from all of it by toppling a table over.
