Chapter 8 - Weapon Companion

This bow rejected me too, Azathoth...

We have tried to pull a couple of bows from the treasury. But to no avail.

"Perhaps they just think you're not good-looking." I can hear her snickering. What a cruel statement.

What do looks have to do with pulling a weapon? Is this how it feels to be rejected?

"Not that I know how it feels to be rejected. I never harbored intimate feelings for others. They usually just think I'm crazy or insane." She seems to shrug it off as if it were unimportant.

Well, I believe they're right to assume you're crazy and insane. And besides, you're ugly, so it wouldn't matter if you were.

Anyway, let's try to pull one more bow before I head off to sleep. I'm rather famished and have to get up early in the morning with my sister.

"Alright then. The final one for the day is the Vijaya Bow. From what I heard, nobody had been able to use the bow since Karna. That's also when it became sentient. So good luck with it.

"Alright, here it goes!"

A distorted portal gate opened. I stick my hand inside of it as I easily pull out the bow.

"I-I did it! I pulled out the..."

"Bow…"

I see a little naked girl sitting in front of me as she rubs her eyes. She has long, beautiful sky-blue hair, deep red eyes, and a slim, fragile body. He seems to have just woken up from resting.

"Yawn— where am I? And you— are you my dad?"

How the hell did she get to that conclusion?

"Lolicon pervert."

Shut it, Azathoth.

"H-Hello there, miss. I am Herme— I mean Polyphormes. What of you?" I bow slightly like a gentleman as I offer a hand to pick her up.

"I am Vijaya! I think. Are you the one that awoke me from my deep slumber?" Her eyes sparkled as she asked me if I was the one that woke her. She radiates a cute, magical girl aura. And her voice is just adorable!

"Pervert."

I said, shut it, Azathoth.

"Y-Yes, I am the one who awoke you— why?" As I said this, her eyes grew wider as she gave a happy expression. This aura… It's so bright and powerful!

"Squee! Then you must be my master. Please take care of me!" Her aura might just kill me.

"Yes, I will, but I thought I pulled out a bow, not a little girl."

"Oh, that! I can change between them. See!" She changes into the bow. The bow is a recurve type with beautiful markings on it. The feeling is smooth, and the material is exquisite wooden material. I can sense the magic circuits in this bow as I caress the body and string.

"Uhm, why are you touching me everywhere?"

Wait, she can feel this? What am I feeling if she morphs back into the human state? No, I don't even want to think about that, so I'll stop.

"S-Sorry about that. I didn't know you could feel that." I drop the weapon carefully and bow down in apology.

"Again, pervert, this proves it now."

Azathoth shut your trap; this is an accident.

"That's what people say, and they get locked up in jail." That reply seemed planned because it was quick and sharp.

"I'm going to need to find arrows, don't I?" I say as I pick up the Vijaya.

"Well, not necessarily, master. You can just use magic to create an arrow. Or make a magic arrow. How about you try to fire one?"

Hey Azathoth, how do I create arrows using magic?

"Think about an arrow; think about how it's created. It's material and such. Then create it. You can do the same thing with other items as well, like swords. Usually, you'd need to chant it. But since you're under my care, you won't need to. It won't take a lot of your mana, but larger scales would."

Thank you, Azathoth. Now, let's make this arrow so we can test it with fire!

I hold Vijaya in my right hand as I use my left to create an arrow. I think of the arrow's structure and its material. A magic aura appears in my hand as it disperses. An arrow had been created.

"Alright, Vijaya, let's do this!" I say as I open the window in my room.

"Okay!" Vijaya seems happy and excited that she's finally being used after whatever time she slept. She's like a little sister who needs pampering because of the lack of parental figures. Reminds me of Lisa.

I'm no archer, but I can tell that my form is off by how I draw the string to my face as I get ready to fire.

Twang—

Swoosh—

In a single draw, the arrow flew to an unknown distance as the pit of darkness consumed it.

Then I felt immense exhaustion; why?

I drop to the floor as Vijaya turns back into a human, trying to help me up before I black out.
