Chereads / Great Heads / Chapter 11 - 44

Chapter 11 - 44

Kaleb

I and Jeremy stayed short of words.

Jeremy and I still remained in that motion, and I could hear a voice speak to an unknown receiver coming towards us. "The wedding is already planned. You shouldn't be shy, mistress. We are here to serve you."

I tilted my head to the side, and watched at Jeremy wince in fear and I could observe in my own self a sudden feeling that surged right through me at the moment. I didn't know what it was exactly, but knew it wasn't good. I thought perhaps I felt anxiety.

My eyes alerted in their sockets and there wasn't a single idea of what to do next. Even I was clueless. I kept on shifting backwards until I didn't even  realize when I fell into a lady's dressing room.

It was a chamber.

I tripped inside the room with Jeremy, and quickly we hid ourselves. I wasn't sure of where Jeremy hid, but where I hid was behind the violet velvet curtains.

I stayed inside the chambers, praying for the strangers to leave. I didn't want to fear yet the situation implored.

Just when I thought the situation was already worse, the chamber doors jammed open and no one had to tell me something was terrible. I could make a guess that it was the Lord's wife.

I peeked at the side of the curtain, shifting it to the side, expecting to meet the fair lady. When my eyes set gaze upon the said soon-to-be wife, I gaped at what I saw because it was so unbelievable.

I blinked my lashes in uncertainty.

The lady looked so farmilar, like a person I had seen before. I knew I didn't really know her personally, but her shy walking steps and from the way she covered her face made me remember a short term memory.

The past: "But you should stay for dinner. At least just for a little while."

I remember the shy blush.

"Greazella?"

Stunned, I gasped.

"It was Greazella whom was to marry the cruel Tibith?" No wonder was feigned here. She wanted me to stay over. She was probably too sad and scared of marrying the Lord Tibith. Her mother too was persistent and maybe the cause; I didn't know.

I thought of coming out since I was farmilar, but the chamber doors slammed suddenly, revealing a leering a clad in breeches Lord Tibith, walking in.

Greazella's pretrified expression reflected on her looks, and her plaited fish braids were shifted to one side by lord Tibith, pressing down several kisses on her neck. The lady Greazella just looked away.

"My wife." Lord Tibith called, touching her waist as she was still seated.

She closed her eyes in pain.

"You need to see what I got for you." His hands wrapped around her neck. And when she opened her eyes, and I also watched, she gazed upon a necklace. It MY NECKLACE for clarity.

The lady's eyes dilated almost as if she knew where he got it.

"Th..this.." her stuttering tone gave out surprise.

"A fine jewel imported from the Great city itself." He still tried seducing her, moving round her like a snake. But she projected an uncomfortable vibe from him.

It was just when he was about going further, a loud knock was heard on the door. Greazella showed gratitude as he had left her.

"Who..!?" a stricking bellow gave out his obvious reaction.

"Sir, a guard was found knocked down by the halls. His body was left hidden at a corner and I think there may be attackers within the castle."  A messenger informed form the other side of the door, earning shock from the Lord.

"In-intruders?" a stammering Tibith displayed fear as he rushed outside the place.

Jeremy fell down flat from where he hid. He was hiding behind a wall near the indoor 'ladies' all along. I wondered why he fell, portraying quite his clumsy nature.

With mouth ajar and dilated pupils, Greazella screamed out as she hadn't seen Jeremy before.

"It's okay Greazella, it's me- the barn boy."

She covered her mouth, preventing a second shriek.

"Your necklace sir, I recognized it at first sight."

She gave me and I felt a connection once more to my mother. "Thank you." I breathed.

"Everything all right in there, my lady?!" A sudden guard knocked on the door as his voice sent arrows.

"Yes." she responded quickly to ease all trouble.

I could see Greazella saddened look on her red blushed face. Her make-up stained due to tears. I would've probably gone closer to hug her since a depressed atmosphere danced around her- but the poison. The itching had started and I wondered why only I suffered. I went closer to her, but not too close, to enquire about her wedding flowers.

"Where can I get your flowers?" Desperation glinted in my eyes as scratched my hand. She gave a rather confused expression, but I didn't mind. She went to her dressing table and a couple of wrapped up 'wisdom leaves' were given.

"Thank you."

"Master," Jeremy called out to me after I had taken the flowers. "We need to go, quickly. You can't stay here longer. They may be coming."

We were about leaving, when Greazella took me by the hand. "Mister?" Her eyes gleamed more with tears. "Could you save me? Also, my grandma's being taken with the other slaves to the meadow. She refused to give me away and now she suffers the consequence."

A tad guilt showered in me because at that moment I didn't want to get involve and have more troubles. I had what I came here for, so why now? Minding your business was good, but watching others suffer was intolerable. I needed to help and the faster I did that, the faster I'd get back home to Pa.

"Don't tell me we're going to do that, sir Kaleb?"

We were at the back of a crowd in meadow where the wedding was taking place. Thousands of guest were in attendance and I couldn't wait to leave. The captured slaves were my worry, I needed to free them.

The place was filled with finely decorated seats and different flowers, which my mother would've been able to name all. It was an outdoor garden themed wedding.

I and Jeremy were clad in a disguise, dressed as one of Tibith's men after acquiring those uniforms from the guards. It was not easy though, but with the help of fair lady Greazella, we managed to fit in the crowd.

"Gideon, you search for the slaves and come back here right after." I instructed in a lowered tone, of course, not making eyes contact.

Lady Greazella gave me a stare and I offered her a firm nod immediately for assurance. We needed to blend with the crowd.

Violin sounds tuned in as the musicians achieved the spotlight. It was soothing to the ears yet one needed concerntration. I was wandering round the place and stumbled upon another guard. He was covered in the same uniform as I was.

"Hey, you!" I felt something slice through me. Was I being caught? I wasn't scared, though needed to avoid unnecessary blood shed.

"What do you need?"

The clad in helmet solider, possessing a [name of slim sword] came over to me. He's squinted his eyes, showing he was a tad suspicious.

Later on, he broke out, "His grace needs men to guard him. You should be a part of them. There's been rumours of a break in. You need to join guard his lordship."

The guard wasn't so tall and also not too short; average heighted, I couldn't see his skin properly because of the black vest he wore on his brown uniform. He was all armoured in a black chain-desinged helmet; something that revealed just a little of his face.

"Lord Tibith's so scared, he seems fazed."  taunted the same guard whom had approached me earlier. He guffawed at what he spoke.

We were still walking when I abruptly snapped his head in secret. Although be hadn't died, he was unconscious.

I rushed into a [tash something like hot house] where I discovered to be the place the prisoners were. Instantly, when I sauntered in, I didn't hesitate to release the captives there. One could see gratitude on their faces and they thanked me accordingly. I felt an unexpected twitch in my heart- like a jolt, as the jolliness it offered beautified my own soul with a grin.

I was still heading out with the captives when an East-Garden solider lunged forward at me with his [that thorn weapon with a rope] almost scarring me.

I blocked it with my hard blade, fighting with all I have. I ended the fight with a stab wound on my opponent's stomach for he had been peirced. He seemed to be dying and more blood spilled.

The others came to me, Greazella and Jeremy, which made gladness brim inside me like a well. Everyone was urged to run, including  myself as they were more East-Garden soliders coming.

I ran behind, making sure there wasn't anyone left behind.

"Thank you good sir." a member of the runaways thanked me, calling me a ' saviour'; something I wasn't used to neither comfortable bearing. I went up to Greazella after getting to a seemingly safe location in the woods.

Going nigh the magnificent woman with her alluring figure, I lifted her chin, only to see a reddish blush. Although not a desired marriage, but I'd say the lady Greazella looked stunning in her silver made wedding dress.

"I shan't marry Tibith. I prefer someone as kind as you."

I was stunned there for a second by her remark. I spoke soothingly, "You'll have the best man in the world even if it isn't me. Take good care of the others and bear in my mind that there shall be peace."

I began journeying after that with my 'needless friend', whom I later discovered also suffered from the same poison plant. He was just covering up all this while and that had caused his clumsiness.

Off to the Aureole hills, we went.
