Chereads / Touhou: I Became a Butler of the Scarlet Devil Mansion / Chapter 96 - Suspicious Maid (Sakuya's POV)

Chapter 96 - Suspicious Maid (Sakuya's POV)

Hello, everyone. Sakuya Izayoi here, the head maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

Today, I've decided to address something that's been on my mind for a while now. You see, we have a relatively new addition to our staff here at the mansion, Shun, who holds the position of head butler.

I've been observing his movements closely, as it's part of my duty to ensure the smooth operation of this household. However, there's something quite peculiar that's caught my attention.

Over the past week, I've noticed Shun making frequent visits to Lady Remilia's room. Now, this isn't a matter of mere routine or errands.

There's something more to it, something that has piqued my curiosity.

I can't help but wonder what's going on behind those closed doors. Lady Remilia is known for her mischievous nature, and Shun, well, he's been a mystery from the beginning though a bit dense.

I, Sakuya Izayoi, am determined to uncover the truth. Today marks the beginning of my investigation.

I swiftly rise from the bed, executing a graceful backflip that lands me before the mirror.

Without hesitation, I prepare for the day's duties, the routine tasks that keep this mansion running smoothly.

But the mundane details can wait. My focus is elsewhere, on a mission to unveil the mysteries that have aroused my suspicions.

As the evening goes down, Shun proceeds with his usual tasks, He prepares for the night ahead, tidies up, and assists with chores, just as any diligent butler should.

Tonight, however, there's something amiss. In the kitchen, Shun is pouring wine, presumably for Lady Remilia. Yet, my keen eye catches an anomaly – there are two glasses.

The stage is set, and the first act of my investigation begins.

With the tray of wine glasses in hand, Shun sets off towards Lady Remilia's room. This is my opportunity – the moment to unveil the truth.

As I grasp the doorknob and gently push open the door, I call out, "Shun!" The room falls into an awkward silence, and all eyes turn to me.

To my surprise, Lady Remilia and Lady Flandre are seated together on the bed, engrossed in a book.

Shun, standing beside them, regards me with a baffled expression.

"Sakuya? What's wrong?" he inquires, his voice filled with genuine curiosity.

"N-Nothing," I reply, forcing a smile. "I need your help with something."

Shun, seemingly accepting my explanation, offers his assistance. My initial attempt at uncovering the truth may have faltered, but I refuse to give up. This investigation has only just begun.

Day 2 has begun, and this time, Lady Remilia is seated on the balcony with a wine glass in one hand and a book in the other. The moonlight casts a gentle glow on her, adding to her elegance.

But where is Shun?

I look around carefully, trying not to raise any suspicion. And then, I spot him. Shun is actually sparring with Meiling in the garden.

It seems he's providing some entertainment for Lady Remilia.

Day 3 arrives, and I notice Shun engaged in a conversation with Lady Remilia. My curiosity gets the better of me as I wonder about the nature of their discussion.

Day 4 follows, and it seems to be just like any other day. My initial hope of uncovering something significant is starting to wane.

Day 5, and still, no concrete evidence of anything unusual between Shun and Lady Remilia. My patience is wearing thin, but I can't give up now.

Day 6, and I'm still monitoring their interactions closely. It's becoming increasingly frustrating. There must be something going on between them, but I just can't catch them in the act.

Day 7, was my final chance to uncover the truth. I've been watching Shun and Lady Remilia closely for a week now, but I still don't have any concrete evidence of a romantic relationship between them.

But in the end looks like I was in the wrong huh.

"Sakuya, you seem lost in thought. Is something bothering you?" Shun asked, looking concerned.

Ah... Since when did he get in front of me.

I hesitated for a moment, then decided to confront him.

"Shun, I've been watching you and Lady Remilia closely for the past week, and I thought... I thought there might be something between you two. But now, I'm not so sure."

He keeps a blank face. "Oh? What made you think that?"

I sighed and explained my observations over the past week, the late-night visits, the shared moments, and the wine glasses.

Shun chuckled, "Sakuya, I understand why you might think that, but there's nothing romantic between Lady Remilia and me."

"I see... I'm sorry for my actions." I stared at him for a moment, still not entirely convinced.

Shun smiled warmly. "It's okay, Sakuya. I appreciate your concern. But I assure you, there's no need to worry."

He bowed at me and walked away.

Meanwhile, From Shun's point of view.

...

...

"She was observing us, huh."

WAIT, SHE WAS OBSERVING US!?
