Chapter 18 - Alchemy

After one year of hard work, I was able to carefully map every herb to the previous era. However, there were many that only existed in the previous era.

I was planning on creating some new herbs through the grafting and gene manipulation of plants.

But I would only be able to do that after I reached nine rings on the mage path, as gene manipulation required careful mana control and the corresponding spells.

I now had some items necessary for grandpa's breakthrough potion. His major path was the path of a knight, so I needed those materials.

I didn't practice much in the last year. So my sword arts were stuck there, but I was able to increase my proficiency in Alchemy.

I was probably the youngest Intermediate Alchemist on the continent. I didn't tell anyone that I became an Intermediate Alchemist. On the surface, I was just a Beginner Alchemist that was trying to break through the Intermediate level. But that in itself was also a praiseworthy fact.

I exposed the cultivation of 2nd ring mage to my parents, and my mom was over the moon. My sister was also not behind me as she had also reached 1st circle. Father told us to keep this a secret as this may cause some bad intentions from enemies that there are two very talented individuals in the Zephyr House.

Currently, I was in mom's alchemy room, reading her notes and experiences. I had already completed all the encyclopedias here.

Before me was my sister practising alchemy.

"Don't mix those two ingredients. You will have your face blackened from the explosion."

"I-I know, brother. I was just trying to experiment."

I chuckled at my sister's response.

"Well, experimenting is good, but safety should always come first, especially in alchemy."

She nodded and continued her work, and I went back to studying the notes. As an alchemist, I knew that safety and accuracy were essential in creating successful potions and elixirs. One wrong move could result in disaster, which was why I always took my time in studying and practising.

As I read through my mom's notes, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. My mother was a renowned alchemist in the Zephyr family, and her work had saved countless lives over the years. To follow in her footsteps was an honour, and I was determined to continue her legacy.

I looked over at my sister, who was now intently focused on her work, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration. At just ten years old, she had already shown great promise in alchemy and was well on her way to becoming an accomplished alchemist in her own right.

As I continued to study, I couldn't help but think about my future plans. Grafting and gene manipulation of plants were just the beginning of what I wanted to achieve. I had a vision of creating new potions and elixirs that would revolutionise the world of alchemy. Not just alchemy. I wanted to learn every single art that existed.

But for now, I needed to focus on making myself more powerful. With careful mana control and the right spells, I would be able to manipulate genes and create new plants with unique properties. It was an ambitious goal, but I was determined to achieve it.

As I closed my mom's notes and stood up, my sister looked over at me. "What's next, brother?"

"Next, we practice," I replied with a smile. "And who knows, maybe we'll create something new and exciting today."

My sister's face lit up with excitement as she nodded eagerly, and we got to work.

We spent the next few hours practising our alchemy skills, creating different potions and elixirs. Some were successful, while others resulted in explosions and failed experiments. But we persevered, learning from our mistakes and making progress with each attempt.

I could sense that mom was watching us practice while having a proud look on her face.

But that wasn't the most occupying thing on my mind. What I was most worried about was my death flag. There was no mention of how or when exactly Ethan died. It was just mentioned in the background story of Sophia that I died when I was eleven and due to the enemy duchy.

I somehow had to figure out the flag and remove it from the roots so as to stay alive.
