Chapter 25 - Suspicion

"We won't take any immediate action for now," I murmured, fully aware of the limitations of my current strength. Challenging someone like Damian Hexstrike head-on would be nothing short of suicidal.

^However, keep in mind that time is ticking, Elias. You only have until the end of the year to achieve an acceptable rank. So, if you're aiming to do so, you need to strategize effectively and act accordingly^

"Indeed," responded Aiden to the intuitive nudge from Iris, Her presence and insights were a constant source of guidance for him.

"Right now, the most efficient path seems to be attending the weapon class and tackling the gates. There's also the option of using stat potions, given my newfound resources, but..."

^It's important to exercise caution with stat potions. Overindulgence can strain your body, especially since it needs time to adjust to sudden increases in strength^

"Yes, you're right. Plus, the effectiveness of the potions diminishes over time," I acknowledged, appreciating Iris's reminders.

"Then what's our best course of action?" I asked, engaging in a telepathic conversation with Noctis, who was resting nearby.

"Well, it seems like it's time to focus on clearing some gates" Noctis responded, his mental voice clear and resolute.

"Exactly come here and let me pat you"

The next day, as Aiden made his way to the weapon class, I found myself walking alongside Kara Melith. Elias's cheerful and talkative demeanor contrasted sharply with my own reserved nature. And while Elias was more than willing to engage in conversation, I preferred to keep things concise and to the point.

Observing Kara, I marveled at her composure. She had a cold exterior, almost unapproachable, but it was evident that there was more beneath the surface. Her family connections, combined with her formidable mastery over ice abilities, made her a figure of interest within the academy.

KARA MELITH POV

Aiden Ouroboros. That was the name I had seen mentioned in the academy's records. He was a freshman who had awakened his Gift only two months ago, yet his progression was staggering. It wasn't just about his swift mastery of his abilities, but also his rapid ascent through the ranks. His name was on everyone's lips, and whispers of his achievements echoed through the halls.

I tried to glean more about him through my family's resources, but the information available was limited. He had faced assassination attempts twice, a clear sign that he had attracted some dangerous attention. Yet, amidst the scarce details, what stood out the most was his potential. He had managed to achieve at least three minor rank advancements in an astonishingly short span of time. It was both impressive and unsettling.

As the day went on, I found myself declining Elias's proposal to join forces for a gate raid. It wasn't that I didn't see the merit in the idea, but rather that I preferred to work independently. Besides, Elias's infectious enthusiasm and optimism were sometimes overwhelming for my taste.

Instead, I made my way to the second-year dormitory area. I had heard of certain arrangements that allowed some freshmen to reside in the top-ranking sophomores' quarters. Searching for the specific room I had in mind, I finally found it and knocked.

The door swung open, revealing Diego Melith, mi older brother. His deep purple hair, reminiscent mine's, caught my attention immediately. His eyes, a vibrant shade of green, held a glimmer of mischief. It was easy to see that the Melith siblings shared a certain allure.

"Hey, Kara what's up?" Diego greeted me with an easygoing smile. His voice was charismatic, matched by his relaxed posture.

"Need something," I replied, returning his smile with a polite nod. Diego was known for his charm and social prowess.

"Come on in, then," he gestured, inviting me into his dormitory room.

The room's ambiance was vibrant, reflecting Diego's personality. Music band posters adorned the walls, while a couple of electric guitars rested against one corner. Diego himself exuded an air of confidence, casually reclining in his chair.

"So, what brings you here?" Diego inquired, his voice warm and inviting.

I took a seat, appreciating his straightforward approach. "I've been observing some of the freshmen, particularly Aiden Ouroboros. I wanted to know if you had any information about him."

Diego leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "Aiden Ouroboros? Yeah, I've heard a bit about him. Seems he's been quite the sensation lately."

I leaned forward slightly, my interest piqued. "Do you have any specific details?"

Diego's grin turned mischievous. "Not much, really. Just that he's been skyrocketing through the ranks. Started as a newcomer and is now among the top three freshmen. Quite the accomplishment."

"Indeed, it's quite impressive," I acknowledged, although my curiosity remained unsatisfied. "But such rapid progress raises questions. Do you have any insights into his background?"

Diego chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "My dear sister, always looking for the hidden truths. Well, I might not have much to offer in terms of information, but you know I have my ways of digging up a few things."

I nodded, acknowledging his unique talents. "I would appreciate any assistance you can provide."

He stood up, his demeanor shifting slightly as he walked over to his holographic console. "Consider it done. I'll see what I can find about this mysterious Aiden Ouroboros."

As I left his room, my thoughts were a whirlwind of possibilities. The pieces of the puzzle were slowly coming together, and with Diego's assistance, I hoped to uncover the truth behind Aiden's enigmatic rise.
