David got out of the cab and, dragging his suitcase behind him, walked toward the departure hall. This was to be his fourth airplane flight and he no longer felt so lost at the airport. Fortunately, he knew English well enough to navigate according to the signage and go through all the check-ins, but this was the first time he was to take a flight completely alone and he had to admit, to himself, that he was a little stressed about it.
He wasn't afraid of making a mistake. Everything was clearly marked and the staff was very helpful and friendly, but he would still rather be with Gustav now. After this time spent together, he felt strange coming back alone. A bit as if he had been abandoned.
Of course, he was not abandoned. Gustav simply discovered some things he needed to take care of, so he had very good reasons to stay. It's just too bad he didn't ask David to stay with him.
