Gustav froze with the smartphone to his ear. Although he was on dry land, water was pouring into his lungs taking away his breath.
"But..." he struggled to get his voice out. The water flooded his ears filling them with a strange clogging sensation and a loud noise. "Could you repeat that?"
"Today the body of Jacob Ingerson was fished out. He had been in the water for several days. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, but visual inspection of the body indicates that it was probably not a natural death. Therefore, we will require further explanations from you."
"From me?" Gustav's knees softened. He needed to sit down. He looked around the hallway. Fortunately, there were two chairs nearby by the flower table. He approached them on yielding legs. He sat down. "I don't think you suspect..."
"Mr. Meiden, we ask that you do not leave the country for the time being."
The water filled him more.
He's not supposed to leave the country, that is….
