Embarrassed by the not at all ambiguous promise uttered without restraint in a public place, David felt an instinctive urge to back out of it, but he didn't. Gustav's good relationship with his father was more important.
"I promise," David confirmed with firmness. A man should not back down from his words.
"In that case, I'm beginning to hope to argue with my father," Gustav declared, and the atmosphere at the table became even thicker with eroticism.
Calmly, just calmly, said David to himself. You are only having lunch, this is neither the time nor the place to get excited. Wait until you are in Gustav's apartment.
"You are such a cute couple," Ursula remarked. "I'm all serious. When I look at you, I feel something romantic in my heart."
