Gustav looked at David unable to answer him. He himself wanted him to ask the question and yet he had no answer in him. The question simply came too soon for him.
And maybe it was because of this emptiness, because he didn't think about anything too hard, just looked into David's dark blue eyes, that the answer slowly came to him on its own:
"I want to be with you. As a partner. As a lover. As your boyfriend."
Did he think it, or did David's eyes brighten? Are those sparks of contentment? Was it the shy but happy smile he sees on his lips?
Did it mean he had a chance at reciprocation?
This frightened him.
"I want you, I want to be with you, but..."
There was disappointment in David's eyes. Only for a moment. The boy smiled softly, as if he expected just such an answer. As if he knew exactly what this 'but' was.
